|

All right, since I have already opened the floodgates with the Weapon Skills thread I might as well go on with another set of skills that bug me.
Those being Jet Pack and Rocket Pack.
Is it really necessary to have two skills for two pieces of equipment are almost functionally identical? Sure a jet pack needs an atmosphere to operate while a rocket pack is self-contained, but would there be that much of a difference in piloting them that separate skills would be necessary? I find that highly dubious. And where do repulser packs fit in to all of this? _________________ "My schooling not only failed to teach me what it professed to be teaching, but prevented me from being educated to an extent which infuriates me when I think of all I might have learned at home by myself." - George Bernard Shaw |

These do seem very similar. Maybe the difference in the types of atmospheres they operate in is enough to warrant separate skills... _________________ "Mind what you have learned. Save you it can." --Yoda

Granted, but the skills possessed by the pilot to operate either of those devices would be almost identical.
To me it just seems more feasible to have one skill with a few divisions for specialization (jet packs, rocket packs, etc). _________________ "My schooling not only failed to teach me what it professed to be teaching, but prevented me from being educated to an extent which infuriates me when I think of all I might have learned at home by myself." - George Bernard Shaw |

why use a jetpack or crappy rocket pack, when you can use a leetstyle repulsor-glider, they get better altitude, and they're better all around |

Because Boba and Jango used jetpacks... So if you wanna be an ultra-cool bounty hunter like them, it's almost required... _________________ "Mind what you have learned. Save you it can." --Yoda

If your characters only use the best equipment available you miss out on part of the fun of the game. I've always thought characters can only begin with equipment from their homeworld. There should probably be some kind of "in game" reason why a character would change from the equipment he's known all his life. (Having better equipment used against you probably qualifies...) _________________ Know Jesus, Know Peace.

I agree, part of the fun of the game is making players be resourceful, and make do with what they have. _________________ "Mind what you have learned. Save you it can." --Yoda

actually, when it comes to repulsor gliders, they're big, and pretty easy to spot, unless you use one of the stealth designed ones. I just think they're kinda cool, a ship a few thousand Kilometers up opens up the cargo bay, and the guys jump out doing a halo jump with their gliders
brings back memories of the movie navy seals
jet packs are cool, but the fact that every person who takes the bounty hunter template starts out with one of those, and a terrorist weapon seems a little outlandish to me... that's all... |

I love those gliders designed for stealth! Those are very cool. And Navy Seals rocked!!! _________________ "Mind what you have learned. Save you it can." --Yoda

Yet again, more equipment that I don’t have.
I guess that what I get for only own 3 books. _________________ "My schooling not only failed to teach me what it professed to be teaching, but prevented me from being educated to an extent which infuriates me when I think of all I might have learned at home by myself." - George Bernard Shaw |

It’s cool, but a little too bulky. _________________ "My schooling not only failed to teach me what it professed to be teaching, but prevented me from being educated to an extent which infuriates me when I think of all I might have learned at home by myself." - George Bernard Shaw |
