As I'm currently planning a new setting, I am unfailable and can tell you how to build a brilliant campaign *cough cough*
1.: Think up a story in a sentence or two
2.: Elaborate upon this
3.: Think up some memorable characters as NPCs as well as their motivations
4.: Constrict them helplessly into beforementioned story
5.: Think up something really bad. Something really really bad...
6.: Keep that wicked thought pinned upon a sheet of paper for future use. Then think up something even worse and make that happen if the characters don't intervene
7.: Think up a really cool way to start up the campaign and how to get the characters involved into all of that
8.: Take a look at what kind of characters people made and find some nifty hooks for each of them that refer to the story and/or the NPCs you designed
9.: Throw all that overboard after the first 5 played minutes as your characters choose to completely ignore all said plothooks and do something absolutely unexpected
10.: Take Vongs advise after all...
Cheers! _________________ They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.--Benjamin Franklin |

Well, since you don't actually have a question from which to offer help, I'll give the advice (other than what Vong and Akari said) to read the sections on gamemastering in the 2nd Ed R&E book and go from there. |

I was wondering what would go into a Privateer/Exploration Star War Campain. I'm thinking of setting it in the New Republic Era. I want to involve an Imperial Warlord (A student of Grand Admiral Thrawn's) who's taken over a section of the Unknown Regions, and a new Near-Human Race subjugated under the Warlord's thumb. I want to start the PC of small, and work them deeper and deeper in the plot (improvising if neccesary). I want the PC to start as Explorers for Hire/Mercs/Privateers and work from there. Also was wondering what other sourcebooks (that I don't have) would be good for this. Thanks. _________________ Not the droid you're looking for....... |

Honestly, the sourcebooks are far less important than imagination.
For explorers, you're going to want to develop as many interesting locations as possible to have them explore and have the plot take them throughout the galaxy in search of whatever they are involved in. Be prepared for space battles, as the ship often plays an important role in that sort of group.
Basically make the people and places as interesting and exotic as possible (with some of the mundane tossed in to maintain perspective). The details will make the experience. |

Planets collection, Scouts, Alien Races books, anything that might have ship and NPC stats in it (most of them). They'll give you a framework from which to create your own or elements for characters and their equipment. As for plot, that pretty much relies completely upon your imagination (though premade adventures can help show structure). |

Yeah, books-wise, I'd recommend Galaxy Guide 8 - Scouts, Starships Stats, Aliens Stats, Creatures Stats and Planets of the Galaxy Collection _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

I've only so far only skimmed through each of my books so far as I've recently just got them. I'm Only really familiar with the X-Wing novels and the Movies really. I understand about the plot being up to me. Thanks again! _________________ Not the droid you're looking for....... |

some things i've found helphull is:
1. don't pre-plan stories that are dependant on character actions. the characters never do what you want.
2. plan places, people, animals, and other encounters seperatly. this alows you to be more flexable.
3. don't pre-plan a story!
4. have your players use a well developed background so you can draw adventures or plot hooks from them |
