Ok. By the book, when a character goes from cruise speed to flank (sprinting) he can take no other actions. But should not he be able to make an attack at the end of it, like a spear rush, or football tackle? What would the mods to this be?? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

I don't know if there are any official rules for this, but I'd let them make a melee attack at the end of a long rush, at +1D DMG for the rush. _________________ "Your lack of faith disturbs me." - Vader |

Yeah, but he'd have to suffer a sever penalty for the attack itself. I'd give at least a -2D (as if the sprint were two actions). _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

I the R&E there is cruising speed, high speed, and all-out , and only the last one says no other actions are permitted. I agree with Gry that if an action was to be permitted after an all-out sprint then you would need a heavy penalty, like -3d ! If you have ever truely run "all-out" (running for your life) then you know it is REALY hard to slow down and do something different without even just falling over... _________________ "What a wonderful smell you've discovered" |

well,, i would actually let them do it with no peanalty. id think of it as charging foward without regard to safety. on the enemies responce to the charge, he is now allowed to doge, parry or anything. and shince hes a point blank range now...
then let him make his choice
put everything into an attack and hope for the best.

Running all-out is well more than what's needed to charge. All-out is all you can give, it's what runners to on a 100m dash competition. If you run all-out at someone brandishing a sword, odds are things will get messy, either for your target or for you. It's not how battle is done. If you were consciously charging someone you would at most run at him at high speed. _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

Linked question.. What about someone charging from horseback (or other animal...)... like a lance charge. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

You know, there are perfectly good games for the things you have in mind: Dungeons & Dragons, Lord of the Rings RPG, Fantasy GURPS....
...just kidding. But not really all that much. SWD6 really wasn't designed with these kinds of action in mind. I'd say keep it simple, simply apply a penalty here and a bonus there and you're all set. Charging from horseback? Quite tricky. That's two actions to begin with (beast riding and melee combat), but if you're also driving your mount at all-out speed, that would classify as at least another action. So make your rolls with a -2D/-3D penalty and get a nice damage bonus.
...or I could check my "To hit Armor Class Zero" table..... _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

Gry, if SWD6 wasn't designed for charging from horseback they never should have given a Beast Riding skill. And there's quite a few Star Wars races that are roughly on the same cultural level as many D&D races. Gamorreans, anyone? How about Coynites? Or maybe Barabels are more your speed. |

Yes, I know that there are many species that live in that "medieval" age, but still they are not what the system was designed for. It was designed for the whole "space opera" setting: blaster fights, starship battles, chasm leaps, etc. Sure your can find a good way to use the mechanics to perform a horseback charge, but you won't find any example of it in the rulebook (while in those other systems I mentioned, you will). _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

It's easy to manage : Each mount is running at full speed (not flank). Rolls to manage hits are performed as normal. Damage is weapon damage + collision damage (taken by both characters). _________________ Phalanks
