|

Had a fellow gm send me details (along with some queries/comments) from her running of one of my modules. One of the biggest things i saw there, that made me go WTF over, was she had 1 pc run over 3 full squads (1 squad at a time) in a regular run of the mill speeder bike (like from ROTJ).
My thoughts, is while it could (if hit) knock down, and possibily even kill 2-3 troopers, there is no way it coulld take the entire squad down in 1 swoop, and by the time you maneuvered to come back to finish the job they would NOT be bunching up to suffer the same. And that is just the first squad...
So. What roll(s) would you say would have had to be involved.
How many could reasonabily get 'whakked' in one pass? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

I would say if in squad formation perhaps 8-12 depending on how tight they were. Of course to kill them, I would imagine you having to sharply turn the bike right before you "hit them" so that you would be hitting wide side, not narrow. Of course on top of that, I would (as a player) try to ensure they did die by engaging a maximum upward thrust off the repulsors right when I was passing over the troopers. The extra push should help do them in.
Downside is, if there are 3 squads, I might have crippled one but have left myself prone to the other two. _________________ Luke, I am your father.

I would simply use the collision rules. Because that is what they are for.
As for the number of people that can be hit. I would rule that the width of the speeder bike allows for one at a time hits for head on collisions, and that more rolls are needed to hit more people.
For manuvers other than a head on collision, like the side swipe mentioned by Endwyn, hitting multiple people would be much easier, it would require the roll for sideswipe difficulty, and coul be used to take out upwards of twelve people if done correctly. _________________ My backpack has jets!

I'd think that hitting a person would make the bike flip out of control. |

And if not flip immediately out of control, surely the control vanes on the front of the bike (if the character simply did a head-on collision) would be seriously messed up, if not sheared off completely, right? |

That is a possibility, also covered under collision rules.
You'd roll for damage to both, the character hit being capped to resist damage and capped to damage the speeder.
Than the one driving the speeder has to roll for keeping control of the bike.
The rule is already there. Just have to apply it to what is going on. Ramming a person with a speeder of any kind is a collision, use the collision rules, they work just as well. _________________ My backpack has jets!

Don't forget damage inflicted to the Speeder Bike for all these impacts. And the troopers would definately be allowed dodge rolls (taking scaling into acount). And after the first pass, that's 30+ stormtroopers from the other squads shooting at you.
Did the player have a lightsaber or vibroblade out and use it for some form of Slash attack as he passed? That is the only way I could see this working effectively. _________________ "There's a set way to gain new Force Points and it represents a very nice system, where you're rewarded for heroism, not for being a poor conductor to electricity." ~Jachra |

I posted what i know of the situation, from what she sent me. In my email response, i did bereate her a little for allowing something like this, without giving proper consideration, to the enemies intelligence. IMO stormies are trained enough, they would not be bunched up enough to allow this. I also asked what rolls/skills she required etc. So hopefully, soon, we will have more information. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Side question. Would you all consider, 3 planned combats for a 4 hr session, and possibily 2-3 more unplanned ones to much for a base raid? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Sorry, KageRyu, but i donīt see dodging sacle modifiers work here correctly. If it would work that way, i could easily dodge stardestroyer crashlanding on me. - I canīt.
You might dodge, but you should add a circumstance modifier for the velocity and the size of the vehicle. I would also let the driver roll a very difficult or heroic manoever roll because of the collision. But it might kill quite a bunch of stromtroopers imho. |

I still say the collision rules already cover every aspect of this.
As for Garkhals second question, no that is not too much combat for going into a combat situation. It may take more than 4 hours, or it may swiftly breeze by. _________________ My backpack has jets!

What about, say for going on a 'bank robbery raid'.. IMO you could have 2 possible ground combats (the raid itself, and one possible enroute to the space port) and say 1 for the escape in space/atmosphere.... Would that be too much? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

No i would not. Although, I would make them fairly short unless it played into the story. Namely the one enroute to the spaceport (just remember, no one can outrun a communications ). |

Indeed, not too much combat there for the bank robbery. The three planned is enough. _________________ My backpack has jets!

Yup. When i was in Bahrain, as part of the ASF (auxillary security force), we were told, never chase a runner if he is heading towards any of the gates, just call it in... _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |
