Capsule: The First Order's stormtrooper's know no family except their fellow soldiers, and have trained from childhood with a variety of weapons, practicing combat tactics until they can execute any military maneuver with unthinking precision. The First Order's assault landers can deliver two full squads of troopers to the battlefield for ground operatiosn. These no-frills vehicles ferry troops from orbit and forward bases to drop zones, then return when combat is complete to pick up the survivors. For defense, assault landers reliy on their shields, tough armor, and a single gunner occupying a dorsal turret.
A pilot guides the assault lander to its drop zone from a cockpit elevated for maximum visibility. As veterans of duty in TIE fighters, assault lander pilots are not troubled by this exposed vantage point, though they do complain athat the landers are far less maneuverable than starfighters. If the pilot's control connections are severed, the assault lander can also be flown from a console inside the craft, but this backup systems offers less precision than the primary controls.
First Order stormtroopers deploy the instance the craft's boarding ramp is lowered, with skirmishers rushing out to establish a permieter as the rest of the troops emerge. Two squads can clear the vehicle and begin combat operations in as little as 30 seconds, allowing the lander to evacuate the drop zone.
A single gunner protects the assault lander during its final approach to the drop zone, scanning the terrain from an elevated turret whose rotating field of fire provides a 240-degree field of fire. The gunner maintains his or her elevation until the drop zone is secured by the deployed troops, with the pilot acting as spotter to identify any threats.

This seems awfully simplistic, as they did a lot more in that scene than just travel to the Finalizer. Is this a direct quote from somewhere? _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. That's better. My point was more that this quote: shootingwomprats wrote: | Four of the Transporters and Kylo Ren's command shuttle once traveled to the Star Destroyer Finalizer. | seemed out of place, as the transporters did a lot more in the films than just travel to the Star Destroyer Finalizer. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. The final version of the write-up will have the quote from the cross-section book. I have all the quotes except for:
Resurgent-class Star Destroyer
Reys Speeder
T-70
Upsilon-class Command Shuttle
I will get those by next week. _________________ Don Diestler

I think I'll be co-opting this one for use in the Classic Era, since it makes a great compact troop landing ship for smaller capital ships like the Nebulon B and such, who don't really have enough troops to require a full-sized dropship. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. Looks good. If they went with scout troopers/speeder bikes, how many would you think would fit in, instead of the 20 troopers? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |
