Is there a list of advanced skills?
I saw an advanced skill for (medical: cyborging) but i forget where.
as a specialization of an advanced skill would it cost only 1/2 the cp? |

Well you only gave us a 20 hour window to respond in; that on a Friday; and that a semi-holiday in some parts.
I don't think there is a full list out there. As far as I can recall the list would be pretty short. Something like:
Medicine
Bacta Tank Operation
Cyborging
Surgery
Starship Engineering
Starship Design |

When I was doing a massive compilation project, I found several advanced skills. As far as I can tell, this is a complete list. Man, I wish I'd annotated it so I could tell where they all came from later.
You can find them marked with an (A) in my "Complete Skills List" file in the folder below:

P.S. Lostboy may not know the extent to which our strange cultural tradition here in the U.S. can tie up our entire day. But, yeah. I hit the ground running in the morning and couldn't check the boards yesterday. _________________ __________________________________

4shared isn't too bad. The basic account is free. I know it seems like you will get spammed, but I have had great luck with 4 shared. I would recommend getting signed up, if only to download cheshire's awesome SW stuff.
It just takes some practice to find out which DOWNLOAD button to press without initiating an ad-based popup. |

I have downloaded lots from there in the past but I couldn't find this document. I just had to create a new 4shared account but it was quick and easy to do so. I figured out which download button it was and downloaded this document.
I looked up the advanced skills on the list for you. It is my understanding these are all known advanced skills published by WEG.

No, but Blaster Artillery Engineering and Melee Weapon Construction are. Oops. The document is laid out kinda wonky and a lot of these skill names take up two or three lines, but ultimately these were copy/paste errors on my part.
I have completed these skill names (and a couple others) on the list in my previous post above. They are all correct now. _________________ *

As a rule of thumb - any Technical repair or use skill has a corresponding Engineering Advanced skill. Though there's been some discussion about this in the past with good reasoning on both sides, I'd say it would be fair to have a prerequisite of 5D before one can go for the Engineering Advanced skill of any one repair or use skill.
Any Advanced skill should have at least three subdisciplines (as extrapolated from the description of (A) Medicine). For some skills, this is easier than others - for instance (A) Droid Engineering should probably be per droid type, or per action you can take (as described from the Fantastic Technology: Droids book).
The Advanced skill system isn't a closed system. Your players may come up with their own suggestions for Advanced skills. This is a good thing, and shows that your players are investing their own creativity into this. However, it doesn't necessarily make sense within a context that any skill has an Advanced version.
An Advanced skill has a different focus than its basic skill, as well as a wider scope, and is usually assumed to require more training or advanced degrees than the basic skill. For instance, consider the skill Law Enforcement. It has an open-ended set of specializations, but does it have an Advanced version?
Well, is it possible to design law enforcement? As a matter of fact, it does - but it is a city planning skill rather than a strict law enforcement skill. So, that suggests that an advanced skill for law enforcement might be (A) City Planning, and perhaps might be used in different contexts as well (needing new prerequisites to unlock that part of it). |

Wouldn't city planning, be more of a bureaucracy skill than an (A) of LE? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Strictly speaking, I started getting an idea while I was writing my previous post about (A) skills. The half-baked (A) City Planning is a consequence of that. Arguably, City Planning can be an (A) of many things - Bureaucracy, Streetwise, and Cultures come to mind in addition to Law Enforcement, each of them representing different aspects of (A) City Planning. Waste management, power systems ... all sorts of things. |

The details of the various Engineering advanced skills are found in the first chapter of Hideouts & Strongholds. City Planning does actually have Bureaucracy as a prerequisite.
EDIT: Actually, the skill in Hideouts & Strongholds is Civil / Industrial Engineering, not City Planning... _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation.
