I have searched for rules on how far a player can throw an object like a rock and can find nothing. I know there is the thrown weapons skill that applies to weapons that are designed to be thrown, but are there any vanilla rules on this?
I would think this would be affected by strength...
Perhaps this should just be a pick a difficulty number and go with it situation? _________________ "Maximum firepower!"

Alternately, you could take a peek at what some other RPGs do. Sticking to more modern or normal games (not supers, as those can give some really high values).
Find out what a normal person can do, then figure out a system based on that (with 2D being the average, regular person). _________________ Currently Running: Villains & Vigilantes (a 32-year-old campaign with multiple groups) and D6 Star Wars; mostly on hiatus are Adventures in Middle-earth and Delta Green |

Looking in the complete weapons PDF there doesn't seem to be any link to str for the range a weapon could be thrown. Just set ranges. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

D6 Fantasy could possibly have some rules for throwing ranges, probably worth a look.

I think Star Wars never wanted to get that intricate with rules about how a throwing range could be increased (or penalized). The less math, the better.
Look at the grenade rules: a basic grenade has a max throwable range, with varying difficulties to make it to a certain range accurately. Throwing a rock would be identical, to hit a target in short range it's an easy DEX throw, to hit the target at max range it would be a max difficult roll. |

Yeah, I'd agree with Random-Axe; that you'd probably be best just keeping it fast and easy.
I just looked in Top Secret (which has fairly realistic rules, for the most part), and for smaller weapons (like a throwing knife) they make it so you can only throw them up to Short range (so up to 50 feet). Larger weapons (like a hunting knife) can be thrown farther, but are next to impossible to hit with (it would usually take a lucky throw). They also have a rules companion book that gives more detailed rules based on stats, for those that want them. _________________ Currently Running: Villains & Vigilantes (a 32-year-old campaign with multiple groups) and D6 Star Wars; mostly on hiatus are Adventures in Middle-earth and Delta Green |

I was just reading up on grenades for today's prep and it says that grenades can be thrown up to Long range. That means they can be thrown at least nearly 400 feet (all the way across an American football field). _________________ Currently Running: Villains & Vigilantes (a 32-year-old campaign with multiple groups) and D6 Star Wars; mostly on hiatus are Adventures in Middle-earth and Delta Green |

I thought weapons each had their own, specific range brackets... |

Most do, some rare few don't list any range. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Most grenades have a range of 3-7/20/40. _________________ Blasted rules. Why can't they just be perfect? |

So 40 yards = 120 feet or so. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Well when you consider pro football players can make passes out to 50+ yards that are on target (the receiver) its not that outlandish. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |
