|
|
To start off, I should be putting together the Grand Army and CIS pdfs in the next day or two. This means I will be starting on another piece of this grand NPC collection.
Next up: Merchants!
Current merchant to-do list:
Merchant
Merchant: Specialist
Hovercar Salesman
Pawnbroker
Black Market Merchant
Gun Runner
If anyone can think of something to add, speak now to it makes it onto the list!
With all of that said, . . . It seems my wife will be giving birth to twins around the end of January. This is going to put a HUGE dent in my hobby time. In the interest of pushing these little projects along, I was wondering if anyone is interested in helping out? I'd like to find 1-2 people who are comfortable with making their own stat blocks and can both take and give a little constructive criticism.
If anyone has any questions or wants to contribute, let me know!
Future projects include (But may not be limited to):
Civilians
Criminals & Thugs
Jedi & Sith
Law Enforcement & Security
Mechanics & Techs
Pirates & Privateers
Rogues (Smugglers, Gamblers, etc)

Why not just do one Fringe sourcebook rather than breaking it all down into multiple smaller ones? _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. It's expected that you will make up new rules to suit the needs of your game." - The Star Wars Roleplaying Game, 2R&E, pg. 69, WEG, 1996.

I was gonna suggest the same thing. _________________ Blasted rules. Why can't they just be perfect? |

I like breaking things down a little bit. When done in smaller pieces, things feel a lot more managable. For example, the "Fringe" book you are suggesting: Criminals & Thugs will include simple pick pockets, gang members, swoop gang members, professional thieves, hitmen, an assortment of characters for Hutt criminal organizations, and a large assortment of characters for Black Sun. Once you start adding Pirates, Privateers, Slavers, Gamblers & Smugglers, . . . well, the list starts to become just a touch overwhelming.
Besides. Once all of the NPC collections have been done, I would really like to compile everything into a single massive NPC book. |

For merchants..
I might break merchants down into more than the 2 cats you have.
Local merchants
Corporate merchants
Fringe merchants
exotic merchants _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

What exactly do you mean by "Corperate Merchant"? Stockbroker? Or something similar?
By "Fringe Merchant" you mean black market merchant? Or something more specific?
I think that "Exotic" merchant will fall under "Specialist" I figure that making a generic specialist will allow someone to choose what field the merchant works in. A Specialist would look something like this:
Name: Merchant: Specialist
Species: Any
Sex: Any
Dexterity: 2D
Knowledge: 2D
Business 2D+2, Scholar:(Insert Specialty here) 3D+1, Streetwise 2D+2, Value: (Insert Specialty here) 3D+1
Mechanical: 2D
Repulsorlift Operation 2D+1
Perception: 2D
Bargain 4D+1, Con 3D+2, Investigation: (Insert Specialty here) 3D, Persuasion 2D+2
Strength: 2D
Technical: 2D
Move: 10
Equipment: Clothing, Datapad (Holding transaction records), 200 Credits, Various wares for sale.
NOTE: Choose one field (Antiques, Clothing, Security Systems, Shockball equipment, etc) this should be your specialty in all open fields.
Reference: Custom Build
I've also added a Jawa Trader to the to-do list. |

Yea i was thinking that for the specialists..
On the fringe, i was more looking at someone who trades in Not that well used items, ie those on the fringe of society.
For corp merchant.. Someone running a corporate store.. eg galadiniums, blastech etc. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

So, someone like a pawnbroker?

Would that fall under the "Specialist" category? Or do you have something specific in mind for them? |

Well.. we have stores here that sell various stuff even from big companies, then we have some of those companies who have their own stores.. IE Verizon/at&t.. That is what i was getting at for the salesperson.
Pawn brokers would be one aspect for the fringer seller.. but what of those people who sell to say those wilderness dwellers who try to keep themselves away from society (whether cause they are forced to or choose to)? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

I see what you are trying to say, but I'm not really seeing how that would translate into a stat block. How would those stat blocks be different from what I'm already working on? It seems that most of the changes required to play those two kinds of merchant would be mostly cosmetic (Personality, setting, etc.) |

For the Pawn/Fringe merchant. I dont really see the need to provide a unique stat block just to reflect the seller having different wares. After all, its ultimately the GM who decides what the merchant posesses.
I still feel like the "Merchant: Specialist" covers. This template already gives Business & Value to the character. Do you think that those skills should be significantly different? If so, why? |
