I am not going into the prequal "praetorian" in any way than making examples in the design where the "praetorians" will have a to me superior design in the context i am trying to get across.

So the way the royal guards and their "versions, shado, siverian protector, saber guard etc etc" is depicted and designed, the helment desing prevents head movement and thus combat efficiancy.

Referances exist that royal guards serve time with military units, be this navy or army and that it is a logical conclusion that they use their branch's equipemtn and armor.

and when deployed as guards, they "may" have a unique looking armor designed for combat, the easiest is the "red stormtrooper" armor.

now back to the design, I would say that the classic "sun guard inspired" red armor is the ceremonial and display armor, as i can not see how the inability to turn head makes this armor combat worthy.

I can see the guard, when displayed in the thronerrom, on parade or elsewhere in a non combat ceremonial role they use the armor as we know, but any combat situation will require a helmet change.

so any thought5s on the "lack of head mobility" in the armor.
anyone who have copslayed and tried on a royal guard helment would not be able to freely turn head without tuning the entire body/torso.
Replacing the helment with "any other" will solve this issue, and should not eb an issue.

To me the listed armor is the ceremonial one, and I am considering houseruling that the armor gives skill penalties outside the nomal -1D that "all" the military armors have, and that this is the ceremonal one.

and I will take away "offensive" penalties once the helment is repalced.

I would actually reduce most skills with a hefty penalty on the "classic" armor design, but remove them altogether with a "simple" change of helmet.

I recommend picking up a set of Crimson Empire comics produced by dark horse comics. They pretty much cover everything on the imperial royal guard.

Although the helmet props are rigid in return of the Jedi, if you look at even the covers of those comics, you will see that those helmets are made of a material of varying flexibility. You’ll note in the comic artwork that the head and neck can articulate with no difficulty. This may be a case where the movie props don’t make sense and the comic does and submitting to the comic would be the wiser choice.

Based on the appearnce i see in comics/the films, they DO appear to not have the ability to move their neck.. SO i can see that giving a -2d to dex and related skills, while worn.
