Quote: | Why does a 200 meter long ship have a crew of nine hundred? Ninety, sure, maybe 180 including medical crew, but 900 seems far too much.
But I think that Star Wars ships have been overestimated in both size and crew for some time now. |
Well a medical frigate would naturally need a large staff to treat and care for critically injured patients, but I agree 900 seems high. Especially given that there would need to be space for the 300 patients. Based on what we see in the movies, most of the medical staff should be droids not biological lifeforms. I would assume the 900 is counting droids, though the number seems far too large for the ship depicted in the Wookieepedia article.
I am curious on what basis you conclude the size and crew of the Star Wars ships are overestimated. Those Star Destroyers sure looked big on the movie screen. |

Well, let's leave the size issue aside (I don't have an argument I can articulate) and focus on the crew. Even a 1.6 kilometer long vessel would have enough automation-and I don't mean droids or AIs, just machinery-to reduce crew complements a whole lot. So a Star Destroyer should only have only, say, 5000 or 6000 crew instead of 14000.
But that's before Stormtroopers. There'd be A LOT of them. |

Wouldn't gunners be 16? 1 for each weapon, right? _________________ RR

2 Missile Launchers 1 crew @ = 2x1
4+8+2=14
66 crew - assuming 3 watches that's only 22 people per watch - which is just about the skeleton crew number. This seems low to me for a military vessel. That would mean that unless the ship is actually in battle, 2/3 of the guns are unmanned and there is only a skeleton crew available for other ship functions. Seems like surprise against such as ship would be devastating.
It also begs the question of what the huge crews on the VSDs and ISDs are actually doing. |

I have no idea why they are different. Maybe garhkal can explain the variance. |
