It's funny that twi'leks are portrayed as dancers all the time when they have a racial max of 3d in dexterity. Is it merely because they are slaves and humans can't be put on the stage?

Racial min/max in D6 are very out of date in case of many aliens. I always use Wookiepedia plus Saga sourcebooks (as the newest one) as guidance for alien stats. So I'd give them Dex at 4D with no problems.

If anything, I would have given them higher dex than humans...

I think it was so twliks would not be combat monkies... since nearly every combat skill (character scale) is under dex..

One could give Twi'leks standard max of 4D dexterity, and then give females a +1D to dancing rolls. I'm pretty sure that Twi'lek men are less inclined to the dancing bit. But if you didn't want to seem sexist or chauvinist you could give it to the men also.

One think you have to consider is culture. Twileks are known for their dancing skills, but that is caused by being a salve. As such they put more points into the skill itself.

EG: Noghri are said to be invincible death dealers that can stand up to jedi. Yet starting dice of 8D only mean that they are barley a threat to Jedi. The Noghri culture encourages fighting skill, so the average NPC Noghri will have more dice in all of its skills.

So I think that the skills are good where they are, if you want to be a dancer, put starting dice in it Wink. You have to seperate out the culture / steriotypes from the actual skill. The Twileks are slave species (not all, but lots). They have not had the time to develop as a people to stand on their own as of ANH. So they start with less attribute dice. And I wouldnt say that anywhere the "most dexterous" Twilek is as dexterous as a human. I would even go to say that I think humans are more (and this is represented in the stats).

This is just my 2 creds from what i remember reading all over the place about their culture.

I guess dancing is a dexterity skill, but there ought to be other art skills that could go elsewhere. Like knowledge perhaps. Or Strength if its building a twi'lek pyramid.

Making them un-combat monkeys would be easy since they wouldn't be allowed the 4d strength like humans. Now they are simply less. Except 2 pips in perception.

Maybe the less is why they are our slaves yes?

However, given the nature of the SW galaxy, a 3D max Dex species wouldnt be famous for dancing, another more dextrous species with good dancers would surely outshine them. But as pointed out, D6 stats are not always very logical. This goes for species and very much for vehicles and ships. I guess too many writers with little consistency check is to blame.

But 3d is over the 2d "average".... and how much Dexterity does it really take to dance?

Does that mean Michael Jackson had a Dex of 4d?

That's a good point most of the people you interact with in the Star Wars universe will not be PC level so those dancers may have only 3D in dex but perhaps most human dancers will only have 2D.

I suppose the question is if the average twi'lek dancer is better than the average human dancer...

Wouldn't both just have 2D in dexterity so unless one had more experience dancing (IE more dice in dance) they'd be the same?

All stats being equal I'd go with a Twi'lek being better as the lekku may help with balance.

If the stats were not equal the Twi'lek's higher perception may edge out the extra dice in dexterity as they'd be better able to read the crowd and engage with the audience.

While the physical aspect of it would definately be Dexterity based... I would think that the performance option for "Dancing" would be Perception-based as that's where all your "social skills" are at.

The average human has more dex than the twi'lek, right? The difference in dex is more than the difference in perc (human 4d dex, 4d perc / twi'lek 3d dex, 4d+2 perc). The thing about twi'lek dancer has to be about the sexy lekku or a slave thingy.

And why would lekkus help with balance? It's not a monkeys tail.
