Now, I know that many of us have used sound effects and CDs to enhance mood and fun, but I was wondering...
Where do you get your sound effects?
I have downloaded most of mine from the internet, but most of those sites have been dead for quite some time, and I would like to get a few more for the heck of it.
In addition, I was wondering if anyone knew how to create a "sound bank" that I could use as a window and click on the sound I wanted at that time.
I am not a computer-person; I only know what I need to survive... _________________ "Let your anger be like a monkey in a pinata"

My GM has used the first few minutes of "Gladiator" to describe how a group of primitave screwheads looked like they they came upon us.
Everyone was intimidated. Even Crunch (A previously thought impossible thing!).
For mood music, I found out that my X-Wing Collector's Edition CD from LucasArts has the Star Wars Original Trilogy Soundtrack on it, as well as X-Wing in it's SVGA Glory!!!
And, aside from what comes from our mouthes, that's about it. |

the Soundtrack from Force Commander is brilliant. You can find all the tracks there:

Try the "Knights of the Old Republic" soundtrack. No only does the game rock, but the music as well.
The piece "Bastila Shan" (the theme of said character- an absolute improvement over, say Padmé Amidala), has a haunting, nice background to it, with small snippets of the original Skywalker-theme in the background. Perfect theme song for Jedi characters! _________________ There is no emotion; there is peace.

I've never used sound effects in my games, but there have only been a few and almost half were in places were I couldn't use any kind of audio device. But I recently started doing animated "movies" for ny website and the most recent one was an R2 commercial based on the "ad" in the second edition revised and expanded. I used sound effects from my Yoda Stories cd-rom disk for that and have since been checking out all my SW cd-roms for sound effects in .WAV format to use. Some nice ones on the X-wing Alliance cd-roms. Still need to check the Dark Forces, X-wing Collectors edition, and TIE Fighter Collectors Edition cd-roms to see if they have anything I can play with. Might be something you'd want to look into for your sessions if you have any of the cd-roms. _________________ FLUFFY for President!!!!

Does anyone have a recommended audio program (preferably freeware) with which you can organize sound clips (both sound effects and music), and play multiple clips simultaneously? It seems like this would be a great tool for gaming - especially with the proliferation of sound effects (thanks in part to the Star Wars Soundboard) and Star Wars music out there.
Something with a simple, straightforward gui would be best, and one in which you could loop sounds (like ship background engine noise, or rain, wind, etc.) easily.
Thanks! |

I use windows media player to play soundtrack music (sorted into Soft, Tension, Action, and Imperial playlists).
I then use real player to play ambient sounds (starship engins hum, ocean waves, birds, crickets, random explosions, etc...)
Then I use the Star Wars soundboards and this file
http://starwarsrpgsoundboard.googlepages.com/
to provide instantanious sound FX like a lightsabre kicking on, wookiee growls, blaster shots, and explostions.
Oh and the players LOVE the stormtrooper screams from that file. Anytime combat is lagging a hitting a scream for each stormtrooper they off does wonders to get people back in the mood. _________________ - J.T. Swift

Thanks, JT. I still think it would be nice to have a single program with a gui such that you could manage several different sounds, including music, at the same time. I bet there's something like that out there. |

You know, I'm very adamant about picking out precisely the right music for my games, but I've never put the time in to providing sound effects. How much more does it actually enhance the game? With good resources I may give it a shot. _________________ __________________________________
Before we take any of this too seriously, just remember that in the middle episode a little rubber puppet moves a spaceship with his mind. |

Precisely 18%
No, there's no way to quantify it, but hearing the whine of a TIE fighter is a great way to let people know what's chasing them. It's also one more element to draw people into the story.
I just ran the soundboards in a one-on-one session and my player loved it. definitely trying it this weekend |
