I needed to write up something to fill up a game session while I finisehd the next adeventure. What I came up with was a freigter ship crashing from the sky.
The PCs were at Mos Eisely Spaceport, when they saw the ship crash out in the desert. The group flew thier ship over and began seaching the ship for survivors (or maybe to grab some free stuff brfore the Sandrcrawlers got there).
They found a unconscious Gammorean who was thrown from the wreak, a fist sized hole through his chest, and a broken vibroaxe nearby.
Entering the wreck, they then found a ded Klaatoonian with a crushed ripcage, dressed in full armor and wearing a breath mask, besides a supessor rifle.
Then they "found" the Acklay!
The PCs barely manage to get out alive, get back to town, and discover that the thing is a pet of one of the Hutts, who is offering 500 trugguts (5000 credits) for the creature's capture. Unharmed.
Lots of fun watching the players try to capture an Acklay without hurting the poor critter. |

Don't look at me. My players threw a thermal detonator into the mouth of one. _________________ The Enteague Sector | Cracken's Collection of Crackpots

They have a high metabolism and are prone to starvation in low resource environments.
A trail of food might actually work. _________________ Don't waste money on expensive binoculars.

THe best way I could think of was the Supression Rifles that Ihad equippted the dead guard with. Quoting from the complied Weapons book:
Quote: | Game Notes: Not only is this a powerful riot rifle, but it
incorporates an underbarrel chemical sprayer that delivers
Brix-C stun fluid onto targets up to 100 meters away. All
characters within 4 meters of a spray’s impact point much
attempt a dodge roll to avoid Brix-C droplets. Characters
who fail must attempt a Very Difficult Strength check, or be
knocked unconscious for 2D minutes. The chemical cloud
extends 8 meters from the point of impact (with this likely
being modified by local wind and weather conditions). Any
characters in the aerosol cloud (including any who have
already resisted contact with any droplets) must make a
Moderate Strength check upon inhaling the mist. Those
who fail are knocked unconscious for 2D-1 minutes. Breath
masks or full-body armor can protect characters from the
effects of Brix-C, and characters wearing both types of
protection are immune.

So even an Acklay (STR 7D) might have some trouble making a Very Difficult STR roll, expecially since I was setting the difficulty towards the high end for a big creature moving through the hallways of a freighter.
The group came up with a few other ideas to capture it.
1) Lots and Lots of combined fire on stun.
2) Jurying rigging their ships laser cannons to fire on stun.
3) Lure the thing outside and try to catch it with the ship's tractor beam. Then lift it up in the air and lower it into it's new hiome.
4) Lots and Lots of Stune grenades (attempted, but failed to work).
5) Dig a pit trap in the sand, build a cage in the pit, and and trick the thing into it.
In the end, the Supessor Rifle did the trick.
For me the fun bits were:
1) Watching the guy who never backs away from a fight run his behind off to get away from the thing while the Acklay was busy pulling it's claw out of the bulkhead.
2) Seeing the very skilled Rodian Bounty Hunter close the door and hide under a table.
3) Watching the group wrestle between thier newly awakened survial insticts and the lure of the reward. Credits won out, but it took about a half hour watching them shift from "No way!" to "maybe" to "one PC going" and so on.
4) Knowing that whatber happened to them, it was thier own fault. They had gotten away once, and decided to go back for more. THat made the advenure guilt free! |

I would love to see this!
Especially if one of the PCs had landed in a puddle of fluid that made them smell like one of the acklay's natural food items! |
