Sniped my Stock Ships on Ebay?!!! I was so close to finally having that book, and for a good price too, only to lose it in the final seconds, when somebody placed a huge bid!! I know it was one of you, now fess-up lol!!!

Yes I bid as high as I could, money is tight this month due to a mammoth car repair! Anyway I hope you enjoy it as much as I would have!!!

It wasn't me. Actually, this community is pretty good about it if you say that you're bidding on something, they usually stay pretty hands off.

However, if you do get Stock Ships, sniping it is the best way to go. Though I dislike the tactic there is some logic to it. If another sniper (and there usually is) sees a price sitting really low, s/he is less likely to "think big" when placing the final bid.

I've got the entire line, including even the live action and miniatures books now. I won a few of them by sniping, but I never knew anyone else that was bidding on them. Stock Ships is one of the books I bought back in the late 90's when it was new.

It is a cool book that gives a lot of freighter options, so I hope that you do get a chance to get it for a reasonable price. eBay is sometimes fun but it can also be very frustruating. If I ever happen upon a copy I'll let you know.

Good luck!

I'll keep an eye on it to see if I can spot it at a used book dealer. If I find a copy I'll let you know.

LOL Thanks guys, I appreciate the help in finding this jewel. I was so excited, I put 50 bucks as my highest bid, it was only going for 15 bucksish at the time. BAMM with 30 seconds or less it jumps to 50.50 and by the time I had picked my jaw up off the floor, trying to decide if I could afford anymore, the auction had ended. Oh well, I wil try again I suppose. Please do let me know if you come across one for a good price.

$50 was too much anyway... especially before shipping.

Totally. I paid about $20 for mine, and that's about as much as it's worth, IMO. I'll see what I can track down though. For some reason this one is perceived as a lot more collectible than others. You can pick up so many of these things for cheap, but this one doesn't often come cheap.

Right, it doesn't come cheap, when someone knows what they have.
I put 50 bucks, because I figured someone would hit it in the 25 range, and then I would pay around 30 including shipping. Whoever it was, wanted it really bad. More than I did apparantly.

What's really strange is that I'm poking around online used book places, and it looks like a lot of people don't know what they have... and not in a positive sense. There are people with the book listed for over $200. A good book? Yes. But only a crazy person is going to buy it for $200, and I won't want to do business with anyone that insane.

Yup, it takes a LOT of patience, but you can get everything for a reasonable price. Everything in these books can be found online, so you can take your time and find a good price. Don't get impatient and bid too much and encourage the continued terrible prices Razz

That said, this is a book that I still don't have in my collection Wink

Yeah, the sellers on amazon are a bit bonkers, they are in that ballpark.
