I'm not sure which forum to put this in as it's not character related, ship related, or equipment related. But does anyone know a way to figure out a creatures size in meters when it's not listed?

Depends, perhaps by relativity to human size? or by Wookiepedia?

Wookieepedia is out, I actually tried there before I asked the question. I guess relativity to human size is going to have to do.

Yeah, we might have to create another pit guide for it haha.

Something along the lines of Epic,8m+
Monstrous, 6-8m
Huge, 4-6m
Large,2.5-4m
Average,1.5-2.5m
Small,.5-1.5m
Tiny, microscopic-.5m

Definitly something I prefered with WEG. Size was at least something you might get in terms of meters so you had a better idea how big something was (though it might not always be listed). I mean all this tiny, huge, average, etc. is kinda useless as far as I'm concerned cause their just descriptive of a size. I really wish Wookieepedia had this but sadly not everything has a listed size so they can't give a size range and sometime have to resort to just descriptive of the size.

Generally, if a size isn't given, I assume they're human range; 1.5-1.8m average.

I don't think it's human average in this case, Ankhanu. This is the creature that spawned this question, a kiltik.

In case you haven't seen Tales of the Jedi: Redemption, the Jedi on the left is the Twi'lek Tott Donetta and on the right is the Cathar Sylvar. The average Cathar is between 1.5 and 1.9 meters and the average Twi'lek is between 1.6 and 2.4 meters And the kiltik looks to be bigger than both Jedi.

Wizards lists it as "Giant", so clearly we shouldn't assume it to be average human-sized.

Hmm, I'd probably put that guy at about 3m tall... it almost looks to be as wide and long as tall too.

Again, this is why I hate WotC's sizing vs. WEG's. I mean in the PbP I've got here the NPC character Giric I keep describing as being a giant and when I convert meters to feet he's a little over three feet taller than the tallest PC. So everyone looks up to him cause he towers well above them. But if a kiltik is three meters tall then it's only a few inches taller than Giric. If Giric is being PC'd I'm not about to say the kiltik is a giant to him cause it's only a little larger than he is.

I've got nothing against being descriptive of size, I just like to know what a size is in comparison to folks before I start being descriptive. Like if I were to have both the KAWD and Giric go up against a kiltik I'd tell one player that the creature's a giant cause to them it is while the other I'd tell them it's a little larger than they are for the same reason. Better to know what the size difference is before starting to get descriptive.

You could call it very large... >.> <.<
Even if it's only a few inches taller, it's probably 3-4x longer than the player. So it does have more size, just not vertically.

What species is Giric? If it is a bipedal species then a giant bug the same height should definitely be described as a giant, if not huge.

If you think this bug 10 feets high, then it should be at least 25 feet long!

So we better be stocking up on bug spray then :p

I've got a table around somewhere for creature sizes. It is based on the sqaure-cube law and is something I'm working on for creature design.

If it would help, I could post it. It's a bit rough, but it does give a progression between size (length, mass) and STR.

The point is not whether or not something is giant based on it's size, but the GM actually having the ability to decide what descriptives to use rather than just being given a descriptive. Having a size to work with gives us the choice what descriptives to work with based on the characters themselves.

Edit: Sorry, forgot to address this in the initial response. You asked what Giric's species is, the answer is you'd never find it in any sourcebook or on Wookiepedia. It's a species I made up called the Yegoglar.
