I was digging through my 4x6 cards and realized that back in the day i handled stun damage differently than in the rulebook.
a "stun" attack would fill up stun boxes at the same rate as a normal attack would fill wound boxes. that is, a " wounded" result would fill 2 stun boxes, incap 3, m. wound 4, kill 5, (and with our extra wound category "splat", 6 stun boxes)
the reason i bring this up is that I had weapons in my game that did stun and wound damage simultaneously (like "blast knucks"). that would not make sense in normal rules... _________________ D&D 5e DM and WEG Star Wars GM for two kids who will hopefully carry on with RPGs for years to come

How did stun boxes function? What did they represent? _________________ Hotaru no Hishou; a messageboard about games, friends and nothing at all.

a character had a number of stun boxes equal to their strength "d" code. during a battle if the character was hit with an attack that did 0-3 over, it caused a stun as per the rules. _________________ D&D 5e DM and WEG Star Wars GM for two kids who will hopefully carry on with RPGs for years to come

So, If I have this right, let's say we have a character with 3D strenght, who's hit for stun damage. He has 3 Stun Boxes. Let's look at a couple scenarios:
A) he gets hit with a shot that does 2 damage more than his Str to resist. He's standing and takes -1D for the rest of the round and the next, as usual. (As with the standard game rules)
B) he was hit for 5 more than his resistance (1 Wound with normal damage), this would fill 2 stun boxes... Is he still at -1D for the remainder of the round and the next? Is he at a -2D? Is he at a penalty for longer? Is he unconscious for 5 rounds (As the standard game rules)?
C) He gets hit for 11 damage (Incapacitated with normal damage)... this fills up all three of his stun boxes. Is he still at -1D for the remainder of the round and the next? Is he at a -3D? Is he at a penalty for longer? Is he unconscious for 11 rounds (As the standard game rules)?
D) he gets hit for 13+ damage; all his Stun Boxes and then some are filled... what happens here? _________________ Hotaru no Hishou; a messageboard about games, friends and nothing at all.

A) goes like you said
B) he is at -2d for this round and the next. -1d for 2 more.
C) stunned for 2d rounds (wounded normally)
D) stunned for 3d rounds (incap normally)
E) stunned for 4d rounds (m.wound normally)
F) stunned for 5d rounds (killed normally)
G)stunned 6d rounds (splat normally, if you use splat, which is +25) _________________ D&D 5e DM and WEG Star Wars GM for two kids who will hopefully carry on with RPGs for years to come

Ah ha! Gotcha.
I think I prefer the RAW stun rule, but I'm sure others would dig this. Personally I like the danger and effectiveness of the RAW stun damage; keeps with what we see stun do in the films and makes it a threat. _________________ Hotaru no Hishou; a messageboard about games, friends and nothing at all.

the reason i did it that way was to lessen the effectiveness of stun weapons. the effect meakes them more taser like, where they incapacitate the enemy thru multiple attacks. it makes it hard to stun big nasty enemies. against weak enemies the rules are about even.
and splat damage is cool... _________________ D&D 5e DM and WEG Star Wars GM for two kids who will hopefully carry on with RPGs for years to come
