First off I wanted to take an opportunity to express my sincere happiness and gratitude for this site. I just recently returned from another long deployment overseas. While I was gone my friends commented time and time again over emails on their boredom of “fantasy” games and their desire for me to run D6 Star Wars when I got home. Well I’m back, dug out my old books and notes from where we left off and BANG here I go again.

In my desperate search for premade maps (I developed a case of cartographers block while in the desert), I located this wonderful site. In just a little times I’ve downloaded many of your sources books and gleaned over many of your postings. So with that all said I only want to thank even one again and find myself stunned there are still a few D6ers out there!

/Deep breath

So here is the question part. I’ve looked over your site and did a few searches but have been unable to find the firm rules on Scale. While not downgrading other game masters (or my dislike of the way it is done in some cases) take on scale, I’m looking more for a ruling/official take on Scale.

My trusting GM Screen (poor rotting thing that it is) Shows the scale of the Scales. My 2nd edition book gives a fair good example, yet I still feel confused when I re read it.

IE: Speeder shoots at Walker. Speeder adds +2D to Hit but Walker gets +2D to soak the incoming blast.

Easy enough, but?! How did they come up with that number? The Chart shows Walker scale is 4D and Speeder scale is 2D. Did they subtract the difference, use the lowest modifier which is it?

Questioning IE: X-wing shoots at Star Destroyer. What does the modifier look like?

Thanks in advance for the response to what I'm sure is an annoying easy to answer question!

According to the 2nd Ed R&E core rulebook, a X-wing shooting at a Star Destroyer gets a +6d to hit, but suffers that same scale in damage penalty, and vice versa,

meaning that the Star Destroyer's captial scale weapons would have a +6d roll to damage the X-wing but the X wing would roll +6d to dodge.

For your own (and anyone else looking to check up on me) reference this is sourced on pages 95&96 of 2nd Ed R&E core rulebook.

Also it seems in regards to your second question that the scale modifier difference is determined by subtracting the smaller scale from the larger one.

Cheers,

Nefasius

Welcome Xamot. Nice reference in the username, btw. Too bad we don't have a Tomax around here to match.

Anyway, you are correct. You subtract the difference if you're using the R&E scaling rules.

The x-wing gets +6D to hit the Star Destroyer.
The Star Destroyer gets +6D on hull AND +6D on shields for resistance if you hit a section that has shields -(Eric Trautman, Adventure journal #15 page 80, answering a question on scales).

So it would end up looking like this is with an X-wing pilot with gunnery of 5D fires laser cannons at the ISD with all its shields:

X-wing to hit total 11D
Laser cannon damage 6D

Star destroyer hull total 13D
Star destroyer shield total 9D
Resistance grand total 22D.

The Star destoyer rolls 22D to resist the X-wings laser cannons 6D damage.

Going with official rules if that pilot fired a proton torpedo at the Star destroyer then the Star destroyer doesn't get shields at all.

X-wing to hit total 11D
proton torpedo damage 9D

Star destroyer hull total 13D

If a player (went insane) started taking potshots at a Star destroyer with his pistol then the player would get +12D to hit.
The Star destroyer would get +12D hull and +12D shields (again, if you hit a section that has shields).

PC to hit +12D
Star destroyer hull 19D
shields 15D
total 34D

Nahh... you're good. Simple questions are okay, and sometimes bear repeating. It keeps us all fresh. Smile
