I've seen a heavily armored PC drop grenades at his own feet to wipe out the fellows trying to brawl with him. I've seen a player use a force point to manage a con roll adequate to convince Imperial troops he was an ISB officer working incognito (and then have the Imps escort him and the other players from the area safely). And most recently I've seen a disgruntled member of a Privateer command team secretly arrange to turn his commanding officer (another PC) over to the Empire for a lifetime vacation in the spice mines, thereby accidentally exposing their base of operation, risking Imperial discovery of an alliance outpost, and bringing an Imperial naval attack line down on them. Fun stuff!
But to be fair, GM's do some off-the-wall things too. I played an arrogant Trandoshan noble in a fairly standard rebel campaign. He and another PC were captured, and held in an Imperial medical bay in order to be healed prior to torture and interrogation. During their rescue they were forced to flee down the halls of the facility in nothing but open-backed hospital gowns. The security tape was recovered by on of the rescuing PC's (a suspiciously low Security difficulty was required for that task) and, well, you can imagine what hilarity ensued... |

To be honest I would have something fatal happen to that player just on principle. Call me a mean GM if you must, but that sort of player action gets on my nerves. Total meta-gaming - ie - I know I have enough soak dice to live and I know they don't so I drop a grenade. Give me a break. Yep, I would see that PC dead. |

Unless it was a droid PC dropping some sort of stun grenade or gas grenade I agree. I can't imagine any non-suicidal being trying that sort of tactic. _________________ Don't waste money on expensive binoculars.

I remember reading in a Palladium book years ago when they were talking about SDC. (Suffice to say, you could pimp out a character in short order with SDC - think natural toughness/body armor).
Apparently, the writers were at a Con or the like, observing a game where a PC jumps on a grenade, has it explode, then stands up and dusts himself off... "It's just SDC", he said...
Suffice to say, the Palladium guys were less than impressed...
Of course, while running a game, we had one PC who was a bounty hunter after several others of us suddenly pull out a thermal detonator - and botch on his Throwing roll... dropping it at his feet. The last thing any of us heard was "Oh... sithspit..." *tink* _________________ "Love like you will die tomorrow. Hate like you will live forever." - Unknown |

Exactly the reason I stopped playing anything Palladium made when I was 16 or 17. MDC made me even more angry. LOL Seriously, you only needed 1 stat to play that game (PP) and it didn't matter what the other ones were. |

I hear you about PP in palladium games. A really high PP makes a character pretty tough to stop. Basically, you're reduced to using area effect weapons against them that they can't dodge. The Palladium system works pretty well at low power levels- rolling attributes by the rules, a small number of skills, 50-100 SDC or so. Street level vigilante stuff like TMNT, Punisher, Batman, etc works pretty well. Once you get higher powered or tons of skills to boost attributes, it's get pretty crazy. |

Well, it was pretty much immediately thereafter that the Palladium guys put a rule in that said that any damage in point blank range (touching to I think 3 feet) automatically went to HP, bypassing SDC...
Returning to off the wall PC actions...
Had a friend whose character was kneeling with a bounty hunter pointing a gun at his head (relatively close). His response? "I kick his hand to knock the gun away..."
He was actually surprised when his character died... _________________ "Love like you will die tomorrow. Hate like you will live forever." - Unknown |

I played a gunslinger merc character years ago. This was in a group of about 4 veteran players taking on a "Dark" campaign. It was quite a roster. Gunslinger, former Royal Guardsman, Noghri Bounty Hunter, Exiled Wookie (for using claws in battle). We were fighting a Dark Jedi and the GM got cute during a round and to show off his fancy lightsaber abilities, he made attacks on all 4 of us in the same round and suffered the MAP. I blew a Force Point on 5D heavy Blaster Pistol called shot on the Dark Jedi's lightsaber. With his MAPs and my Force Point (ended up rolling like 14D), I hit it and destroyed the lightsaber. Boo Ya! Right?
Not so much. Turns out his Force Lightning in the subsequent round was a little more impressive than his lightsabery. Guess who his target was? Me. Took another Force Point to survive that one - just barely with a Wound. But he didn't go after the other 3 players... all those dice for lil ole me. And the Noghri and Royal Guardsman killed him while I was bucking and writhing on the floor.
I miss that bunch....
I highly recommend an enethical campaign after you play goodie-two-shoes a time or two. The GM didn't allow us to have Jedi/Sith in the dark campaign, but we made a nice little team with what he had.
Which leads me to my next whacky moment. As our core group incorporated other players, we divided into two camps and at the end of the school year (yeah college), we knew that would be the end, so the behind the scenes plotting and planning to Playe Kill began. I hired a slicer to sneak aboard the other group's ship and shut down the safety mechanisms of the hyperdrive. If they turned on us during space flight, I could remotely activate their hyperdrive to send them into the nearest star.
Never did use it, though. |

I started with a new group of players who had never RPed before. One player really wanted to play a short, Jawa bounty hunter. The other players mocked up, but that is what he wanted, so I allowed it. He couldn't speak basic, he couldn't carry really big weapons, etc.
Well, in the first game, the player's ship gets sucked in by an Imperial tractor beam. The players are on the run on the Imperial ship, but the poor Jawa has a slow move rate and is captured.
The Jawa gets interrogated by an Imperial who wants to know about the other PCs. The Jawa uses his one force point to resist interrogation, saying he'd rather die than betray them. Given how much the other players had been teasing him for the two hours leading up to this point, I was caught off guard.
Honestly, it is my favorite use of a force point by a player ever. _________________ Nihilism makes me smile. |

The palladium system kind of bugged me to so i put together a few rule mods and some add ons and i ended up with a pretty decent system with uot having to re invent it, even the combat system was improved and felt more balanced, it was play tested in rifts. |

I prefer different systems for different types of games, but on the whole I prefer fewer rules. I knew some professional game designers in LA that I used to RP with in the Camarilla. One of them insisted a good game system should have mechanics for how to blink. I think well designed core mechanics should cover almost every scenario, so you shouldn't need ten million rules for different scenarios.
I liked all the choices that Palladium offered me as a player when I was younger, but looking back years later, I can't imagine ever wanting to use such a system again. _________________ Nihilism makes me smile. |

Not only would i have given him that one back, but i would have given him an extra one for his selflessness. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

I certainly did. Even though the PCs had no knowledge of what was going on, when the players saw that scene take place, they suddenly had a greater urge to rescue the poor Jawa bounty hunter. _________________ Nihilism makes me smile. |

During my fourth EVER game of Star Wars D6 (I already had some experience with Shadowrun) my group tried to complete a smuggling deal with a Hutt. They had to deliver some boxes of illicit cargo to a neighbouring planet. It was in some remote Outer Rim system, so security was light. They are about to pass the destination planet's moon, when I inform them of two TIE Fighters being reported on the sensors. The players (RL: 4 guys around the age of 16 with sufficient knowledge of SW) ignore them.
"Light freighter Whatshisname, please reduce speed and rendezvous at 98:74 for sensor scan."
The players, in their lightly armed and unarmored freighter, still ignore them and keep going at the planet. Me and the TIE Fighter pilot insist. The imperial being a little more rude than me.
The players still ignore him and even accelerate (Space move 4 - eat my vapour trail, TIE pilot!), so the TIE Fighters take the chance for some action and blow the freighter into stardust. TPK. Adventure over.
When the dust had settled, I asked why they didn't respond and one of the guys replied, they hadn't taken TIE Fighters so serious, because in the movies they blow up all the time.
The thing was, the adventure didn't even call for the TIEs. It was a random encounter to add a little tension. The cargo was hidden well enough to escape a casual scan and the Imperial governor had his fingers deep in the pie anyway. ARGH, Players!. _________________ RPGGamer (featuring a big portion of DLOS-stats!)
