Usually the more dice you have in a skill or attribute the better. Sometimes that is not the case, but I'd better start at the beginning.
My Esoomian character has 7D in strength (10d in brawling specialisation martial arts and 8d in climbing/jumping).
Now the in the current adventure our party had split up into two groups The Jedi (who had lost his lightsaber... Don't ask) and the verpine tech were off on a speeder bike tracking down a force user and I was in the other group attempting to offload the candy on the local merchants.
We were probably only 1k away but we were on the moon Nal Shada (if you don't know it's one of the larges smuggling ports in hutt space population between 75 and 95 billion beings so it's crowded).
This wouldn't have been a problem if the force user hadn't revealed to the crowd at large that the Jedi was a Jedi and had a huge bounty on his head.
Thanks to the Jedi's spectacular failure to notice the drawing of guns he was cut down in a hail of not so friendly fire.
Being a smugglers port no-one there wanted to share the bounty so a massive gunfight erupted over his prone form to see who would get to take him in. This distraction gave the verpine time to com us with the danger and swoop in (getting shot several times) and snatch him away from the maelstrom of blaster fire. The bike took some damage the Jedi took another hit (leaving him mortally wounded) and the verpine shrugged off the blaster fire with no noticeable effect (apart from tarnished chitin).
This would have been OK as the verpine knows first aid and has medkits so could have stabilised him then got him back to the ship where we have a med droid.
Our GM decided that that would be just too easy and had a bounty hunter give chase with a jetpack. This meant the verpine had to keep flying as there was no way to get rid of the bounty hunter (The verpine has no skill with blasters and cant use the only available weapon, a blaster rifle while flying away from the target).
This is where the story gets back to me.
Without a speeder and no way to push through the crowd fast enough I had only one option... up.
With a series of mighty leaps I was able to get to the top of a building and hurl myself at the high flying airspeeder traffic.
This was somewhat shocking for the occupants of the speeder (one of whom turned out to be my biggest fan so that was lucky) and they lost control of the vehicle.
With great tenacity (and more luck than I probably deserved) I managed to scramble up on top of the speeder, punch through the windshield and regain control of the vehicle.
This is where it starts to get really interesting.
I was able to use my comlink to find the verpine and head in that direction but I was unarmed (my hands are too big for most blasters) and riding an unarmed civilian airspeeder. As the verpine and I hurtled towards each other (head on) I did the only thing I could I yelled at my biggest fan to land the airspeeder, spent a force point and leapt off the airspeeder in an attempt to do a mid air flying tackle on the bounty hunter chasing the verpine.
My intention was to smash into the bounty hunter injuring him and forcing him to have some form of controlled landing.
Plan B was if the landing is uncontrolled he's on the bottom.
The leap was a massive success (50+ when I had to score 30 or so) and I even managed to grab the bounty hunter (basic dex roll not brawl roll as I was hoping). The problem came when I had to do damage. I easily soaked the blaster bolt from the bounty hunter. but the bounty hunter had to soak the damage from a force assisted 700lb Esoomian flying tackle.
With 14D for damage I rolled 50 or so and he only soaked 13. The GM kindly informed me that the paste I was clinging to would not help to cushion my fall in any way.
So there are some times when you can have too many dice |

Fortunately my teammates had not been idle and one of my friends was able to swoop in and delay my decent just long enough for me to struggle into the bounty hunters jetpack (being on his back it was largely undamaged).
With that I was able to slow my decent enough to not die. But it was a close thing

A wonderful tale! That's the perfect example of great roleplaying followed by some good luck on the dice... maybe with a little grace added in from the GM.
I'd love to read some more of your adventures sometime. |
