This question has probably already been answered somewhere, but I couldn't find it through a quick search. Why are there skills for "Starship Weapon Repair" and "Capital Ship Weapon Repair"? Shouldn't these just be specializations for "Starship Repair", "Space Transports Repair", and "Capital Ship Repair"? If a character doesn't have a weapons repair skill, are they not able to use the general vehicle/ship repair skill to repair the craft's weapons? Would they have to use their Technical attribute instead? |

Pretty much, yeah. Weapons systems are radically different from ion drives and whatnot. Although you could argue that so are shields or life-support systems, which all fall in "starship repair", but you can't really have a skill for each sub-system. So I guess it makes sense to make just one separation between civillian systems and military systems. So your cornershop mechanic won't know how to fix your turbolaser. Makes sense. _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

My guess is they are different enough systems that they require different skill sets, if for no other reason than scale alone. Same basic idea for starship and capital weapons(make whoever you are shooting at go boom) but different size, power levels and inner workings.
As to why starship weapons is not a subset of Starship Repair and Space Transports Repair, both ship types use the same scale weapons, but have different inner workings as far as ships go ... a sports coup and a sedan can have the same engine, but the overall cars are spaced out and put together differently. Same goes for fighters and transports.
If your character doesn't have the weapon repair skill, they should default to the attribute. In this case, technical. _________________ Gamemaster at Large |

The civilian system-military system differentiation makes sense to me - thanks, Gry. |
