So, I'm pondering starting a new game here. I would be running a campaign I recently designed for an RL game I'm game mastering for some friends. I really like the world I designed and having it only be used for a one shot makes me sad. So I'd like to run a game here that uses the same campaign setting.
Setting: It's Battle of Yavin +2, the game is based on a little known world just beyond the edges of the Empire's known galaxy. The world, called Thractin, has a native civilization with something close to World War II technology -- gas burning ground vehicles, propeller driven planes, firearms. On an island the size of a small continent (about 300 km x 200 km) off of the main continent the civilization of the larger Star Wars Galaxy has gained a foot hold.
Thirty years ago a former scout for the Black Sun discovered the planet and the barely inhabited island continent and managed to trick the greedy planetary government of the time into selling it to him. He then established a fringe space-port town there based around a casino/inn and neutral territory safe-haven. The town, and island, have since exploded in population with smugglers, pirates, slicers, gamblers, information brokers, scouts -- anyone and everyone who wishes to avoid the Empire -- coming by the droves. Some stayed and set up home by choice, some lost everything in the casino and had to stay, some just use it as an occasional port of call. Other towns have sprouted up all along the islands coast, many of them making an industry out of introducing the local farmers to modern technology.
The main continent remains untouched, and the former greedy/corrupt government recently fell and was replaced by a fresh democracy. Little known to the criminal element in the main town (Telan), or the residents of the other towns, the Rebel Alliance established a base in the mountains at the center of the island many years ago. The base's main function is to serve as a recruitment and training center and as a liaison to the new planetary government. The government is highly sympathetic to the Rebellion's cause -- having been built on the foundation of a similar Rebellion -- and provides an ample supply of recruits. Many recruiters also work in the cities of the island, undercover, to recruit from the many people who come through those cities.
Also based on or near the island are a pair of pirate crews -- one largely well intentioned just trying to get by the only way they can, the other purely cruel and evil.
Characters: Characters can be fringe with rebel sympathies (bounty hunters, pirates, smugglers, gamblers), Rebel, or anything else you can come up with as long as their sympathies would lie with the Rebellion. The characters are free to join one of the pirate crews (preferably no the evil one), the Rebels, attempt to work with the local government to fight the Imperials or to simply attempt to avoid the Imperials while dealing with the local fringe groups.
Party size: Would be looking for a group no smaller than four and not much bigger than six or seven. Much bigger than that would be problematic.
Plot: Largely open ended. It involves the arrival of the Imperial Class Star Destroyer Vehemence in orbit around Thractin and it's campaign to reign in the fringe elements and later subjugate the local government. At the start of the campaign it is unknown if the Empire has learned of the local government's rebel sympathies or of the base on the planet or whether the Star Destroyer simply arrived to clean out the pirates who'd been hitting local star lanes hard.
Notes: I do not like the changes made to the Star Wars Universe post-prequels. This includes all the information about the Clone Wars added by the Prequels as well as all the information added to the EU post New Jedi Order. So the game world I run uses only information and sources that can be found in the original WEG guides. Sorry that's just the Star Wars Universe I like and prefer to game in.
So anyone interested? If enough people post yay, I'll ask for a board and people can set about making characters. _________________ The Road Goes On - My personal blog.

That little interest, huh? Would it be better if I got a board first and then asked for players? _________________ The Road Goes On - My personal blog.

Lol, sorry, no, I meant that only one person had shown any interest. I looked back through the other game threads and it looks like people usually spot them with in a day when they are interested. Though none of the recent ones seem to have actually come into being.
I'm wondering if people are just jaded with the swamp of new game ideas that don't happen, and if I'll get more replies if I go ahead and create the forum for the game.
Maybe not though, maybe people are just busy right now and I should wait a month or two and try again. Or maybe folks will show interest when the weekend rolls around. We'll see, I'd hope there are enough for a game, I'd really like to run another campaign on this world. _________________ The Road Goes On - My personal blog.

I think I could handle playing something like this. _________________ Hotaru no Hishou; a messageboard about games, friends and nothing at all.

Hey Alcon, I'm if you're still looking for players.
I do believe you might get more answers if you create the board and that there is regular posting on it.
The whole forum seems slow these past few days anyway. Give it a couple more days, I'm sure you'll get some more people.
Are you looking for the players to be part of the same archetype, like all pirates, all rebels or all fringe, or are you more looking for a good mix of them? |

Hey, definitely still looking for players. Need one more before I'd be willing to go. I'm pming Loc Taal to request a board now.
As far as I'm concerned anything goes, just so far as the character would be potentially willing to join the rebellion/and or fight for it's cause. They can be already with the rebellion or not with it, but willing to join it given the opportunity. It's pretty open ended with any number of paths the party can take -- I generally let the party decide which one they want to travel. They all involve somehow fighting for the cause of the Rebellion -- or at least battling the Empire -- on Thractin, however. Which is why I put that requirement in. _________________ The Road Goes On - My personal blog.

I am interested but it will probably be a few days before I could come up with a character. Any particular races or template requirements? And do you have character generation rules you want us to follow that are different than standard? Thanks man. |

Just use the standard rules the only house rules I use (that apply to character creation):
Melee Parry and Brawling Parry do not exist. I use Melee Combat and Brawling for them -- seems silly to have two skills. And Grenade is a specialization of Thrown Weapons.
Those seem to be pretty standard house rules though. _________________ The Road Goes On - My personal blog.

18D attributes and 7D skills are the standards.
Any limitation on races? Any predominante enclaves on Thractin? |

Predominately human, but it has a large influx of fringe-type traffic so really anything that you might see in the larger galaxy could potentially show up there. _________________ The Road Goes On - My personal blog.

Also, yes, standard skill and attribute die. E-mail or pm me the character sheets. I pmed Loc Taal for a board, waiting to hear back. I may Pm Scrawpin too if I don't hear back after a while.
Looks like we have 4 slot taken, that's the minimum if anyone else wants in I'd be willing to take 2 or 3 more, but no more than three. _________________ The Road Goes On - My personal blog.

I'd be interested in joining, if you still need players? I'm new to the Rancor Pit, but would love to get involved and learn pbp. |
