I've seen it used instead of LSC as the person was a low level jedi and actually got more of a bonus from concentration than they did for LSC _________________ Don't waste money on expensive binoculars.

I know that a big part of why this got brought up is because I have indeed used it to bring up Lightsaber Combat.
The way garhkal stated is exactly what I was thinking when I first tried that. Concentration was used simply to help my character focus enough on the Force to bring the power up; once it was up, there was no further "interference" from Concentration. I always saw it as simply a way to help the Jedi focus on the Force enough to bring up Lightsaber Combat in the first place, especially for the lower-level characters who don't have enough dice in the Force skills to successfully bring up the power without taking extra time to avoid the MAPs. |

Actually, not me
The way I see concentration is to get a bonus on one action events. like a small bonus on a shot, or on a kno skill... _________________ The Vong have Arrived

Doesn't Concentration effect only a single skill? If so, it can't be used for Lightsaber Combat (Control+Sense). _________________ Xynar

Good point! However it can still be used to enhance the skill lightsaber _________________ Don't waste money on expensive binoculars.

you can activate the control aspect one round, and the sense aspect the next round, so it satisfies the concentration rules. _________________ The Vong have Arrived

Does that work? Can you concentrate on half a task?
What do you roll to activate Lightsaber combat? _________________ Don't waste money on expensive binoculars.

LSC doesnt go up until both have succeeded and you dont have to do both in the same round. _________________ The Vong have Arrived

I didn't know that you could do the Control and Sense rolls separately...this isn't a house rule? Not disputing it, I just need to be taught. _________________ Arek | Kage |

In the games I've played, our GM has allowed Jedi to make Sense and Control rolls separately... Lightsaber Combat just isn't active until both are successful, and our MAP is still applied for having one or the other up.
Example:
Jedi Anne succeeds on her Control roll, but misses the Sense roll. She can try again the next time her turn comes 'round, but since she's already got the Control part of LSC going, she's still at a -1 to her Sense roll. If she makes the roll, LSC is active, and she's now taking a -2 penalty on her next action.
Mechanically, I don't think it's any different from succeeding at both rolls the first time, save that it's extended over 2 (or more, if she keeps failing) rounds, with the MAP applied and no bonuses for having LSC active. |

I'm a jerk. I force the players to roll both. If they fail, roll both again. And they must have their lightsaber ignited as well. This helps "balance" the Jedi for the sake of my other players that aren't Jedi. This makes Jedi suck compared to other characters until they can get powerful enough to perform multiple force powers. Then the Jedi is way better. It also gives the Jedi player more satisfaction as they can really grow their character and watch them evolve. _________________ Xynar

Forgetting about bringing Lightsaber Combat up with Concentration, here's why I've limited Concentration in my PbP game here on the forums.
If a player starts to use the force with assistance (ie Concentration), even when they reach a point where they could do without the assistance, they'll be less likely to abandon it, as they've become so used to using it at the same time.
That means that often, having the Concentration power, can replace bothering to increase dice in force skills, for the sake of activation.
Oh, I know that the dice MAY be raised.. but that's most likely to allow them to access new force powers, that they want to use Concentration to use... |
