Surfing the Wookieepedia I stumbled upon this ship, which just begged to be statted:
TIE Hunter
Commissioned by the Empire's elite Storm Commando corps, the TIE Hunter is an experimental fighter that sacrifices armor and firepower for flight speed. It is equipped with twin laser cannons, a proton torpedo launcher, and an ion cannon. The design of this new craft integrates the folding S-foil design of an X-Wing into the form of the TIE Interceptor. However, the new high-speed, closed-wing configuration reduces the solar panel surface area so dramatically that no weapons can be fired while the wings are in a closed position. All available energy is transfered into to the craft's advanced twin ion engines.

The only thing that bugs me is whether or not it has shields. Wookieepedia seems to say it hasn't, but most other sources, (like this) say it has. _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

Personally, I think it would need the 1D shields. At the very least to allow it to skim in and out of a planets Atmosphere while protecting the external sensors.
No shields sounds to unlikely, IMO. |

Well, most imperial craft don't have shields and they get by just fine without them (until some pesky rebel comes along, that is). _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

With the idea of sacrificing armour, etc. for speed, it wouldn't make much sense to add weight on with a shield generator, negating the benefit of reduced armour. _________________ Hotaru no Hishou; a messageboard about games, friends and nothing at all.

Yeah, I know. And the shield generator would suck power that could be used to boost the engines...
But regardless of the logic of it, the thing is that that game card clearly states that it HAS shields.... _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

I think these are from the game Rogue Squadron 2 on the Game Cube. These things sucked in the game and you could gun em down like nothing.
But, you also got to fly it, and it did have some nasty guns. In masses these would be much much much more dangerous compared to stock TIEs.
To be honest, I think there may be a few too many "experimental TIEs." |

No, there aren't "Too Many" experimental Ties.
There can't be too many. The weirder, the more wonderful, the more likely it'll be attempted.
Just look at all the various things done with "Hobart's Funnies", a series of specialty tanks (Usually Sherman and Churchill bodies) designed in World War II. |

I happen to, unfortunately, only HAVE a gamecube...
FORTUNATELY, tho, my daughters are both lobbying for a PS3.
Lemme get the new Ghost Recon...
And any new SW games I can lay hands on... |

Was there a strategy guide anything like what was done for X-Wing and TIE Fighter for Rogue Squadron III? I prefer those two to some other strategy guides cause of the technical stats. Heck, even if strategy guides not like those two say something about shielding, then we could get an answer without going into the game. Come to think of it, might not need an offical strategy guide. Some of the folks that post walkthroughs on Games FAQ might have noted this. Gonna go check there on whether or not this thing has shields. Or at least whether or not anyone mentioned it.
Edit: Never mind Game FAQs for answers, only twice did I even see folks mentioning fighters having shields and both cases were for the X-wing. But it was a try at least. A couple of folks did say the TIE Hunter wasn't that durable, could mean no shields or that the shields aren't all that strong and very little armor when they drop. _________________ FLUFFY for President!!!!

Yes, there is a strategy guide for RS III. I got it for dirt cheap, because I got the game for Christmas well after it had been out for a while, so the guide was in clearance. 8)
Now, it is nothing like the one for X-wing, because THAT one is cool...with the story of Keyan Farlander weaving in and amongst the missions. But Yes, there is one. I'll try to remember to look in it to see if they have shields. |

Thanks for t help, guys.
So, we're settled that it's a somewhat fragile fighter, right? So it's either no shields and 3D Hull, or 1D Shields and some 2D+2 Hull. _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |
