I'm not sure where to put this, but I figured that some of you might be interested in this. It has been pre-announced that West End Games will be making the D6 system available for people to use for FREE. They haven't made an official announcement yet, but you can find the unofficial announcement here http://www.westendgames.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2734.

Same here. I've avoided some game ideas simply due to possible licensing issues Smile

Yep. Excellent news indeed. I wonder if a group of people cares to start writing the 3rd edition of the Star Wars Roleplaying Game Rolling Eyes

The d6 license isn't the issues with that one... it's the Star Wars license that's gonna be the issue Razz

There are a couple of free Star Wars RPG's that can be found on the Internet. So, I don't think that's an issue but I may be wrong... Confused ... well, as long as distribution is for free...

It's at Lucasfilm's digression. To date, they've been very tolerant of fan productions and fanfic. However, if they want to issue you a C&D, that is perfectly within their rights.

Amarillo Design Bureau has a game they're adapting to d6. They wrote it using the gurps system then adapted it to d20. Now with d6 free to us they're adapting it for d6. I'm looking forward to this game. http://www.starfleetgames.com/pdindex.shtml

It is. It's called "An example of things that are being done with D6 now." Razz

Hard part will be getting permission to put out a LEGAL, able to sell new version of Star Wars D6.

*Sigh* Stupid WotC, using Star Wars as a Test Bed. Crying or Very sad

Selling is one thing... making it available for free another Twisted Evil

However, don't misunderstand me: I'd pay a LOT for an updated version of Star Wars D6.

Giving it away for free can impact official sales. Either way you slice it, Star Wars is copyrighted material. It's up to the copyright holder to decide when they've been infringed and what they want to do about it. For the most part, LucasArts/LucasFilm has been pretty lenient about fan made Star Wars stuff; but something like a widely available roleplaying product to infringe upon the sales of the official material might get their attention a little quicker.

I'd still work on it, mind you Wink But there could be problems.

If your really worried about it why not try and get a group together and ask Lucas Arts for permission to make an official fan site using the now free d6 at least then you'll be covered. Or you can always go with the old saying its easier to ask forgiveness than permission.

The old saying is more my style in something like this Wink

While Lucas may allow it, the current license holder... probably wouldn't.
