Ok... so it's actually a different question I just happened to think about... but, rather than start a new topic, since my question fits here...
SO...
Can a jedi absorb/dissipate energy on a blast not coming at him? I've read a couple of situations where, in a jedi/sith battle, one has used A/D to shut off the other's lightsaber (successfully), so, to me, it almost stands to reason that it should work.
By way of example:
A jedi is near a firefight between his friend, the smuggler and your friendly neighborhood stormtrooper. The stormtrooper has gotten the drop on the smuggler and fires. The jedi realizes this and attempts to use Absorb/Dissipate Energy to keep his friend from being killed.
Possible? Comments? Thoughts? Difficulties? _________________ "Love like you will die tomorrow. Hate like you will live forever." - Unknown |

Im going to have to say no. the cases that i recall about shutting off a saber required them to touch the saber to do so. it is a control skill, so its control of ones self, not of ones surroundings. _________________ The Vong have Arrived

you could could come up with a power to do something similar. what are the guidelines on player characters creating their own powers? |

LIke spells in adnd... THE player comes up with the write up and what they feel the powers needed to activate it (prerequisits) and what skill(s) it should be under, and their rolls needed to activate it. Then they hand it to the gm who goes over it, modifiying it as he sees a need to, then tells the player if it is ok to do so. IIRC then it takes a while and a lot of CP to learn the power. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Bringing this back up with a new thought on that latter question.
In the past i have done (as a pc) and allowed someone to do the following
If they see the attack, but the one the attack is going against has little to no chance to dodge, they can dodge INTO the path of it, taking the blast full bore on themselves. I have allowed jedi to use this ruling to put themselves in the way to try and ab/dis the damage, and it nearly always will grant a FP for major heroism.
Situations where it WONT' give one:
Where the player knows he is going to earn that fp and does it just for tha.
Where the player is metaknowledging that due to his/her high strength and/or armor is going to avoid any damage so the 'jumping in the way' is no risk to them. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |
