I did ask. It just didn't hit the GM until later that yes, this character would probably know right off the opponent we were dealing with... Rolling Eyes

i've been in similar positions as a gm where the character would/should know something but the player doesn't (but doesn't ask for clarification). if i don't do or say anything the players get upset so i ask for a skill roll from everyone, which ever skill would be applicable. then give the player that should have asked what he knew, whatever information their character would have known. sometimes i'll forget until a round or two after the information should have been given out. if that happens i'll let the players decide if they want to rewind time or just continue. usually they decide to take things in stride and the "offending character" makes up some excuse as to why they didn't think to give out the information sooner. then the rest of the party slaps the character around for a bit then moves on. usually

Me, i rewinded once, noticing that the party was screwed and i was sure if i wanted them to encounter him yet. The dark Jedi, Anger, had snuck onto their ship as a mechanic. So they started fighting and he started leaking an over powered space wraith from the Ultimate Advesaries book. I noticed, my two players in the game gonna die. So as one was dying i had them role perception. They looked up, and saw their ship as normal, and they were okay. I mean the dream was so powerful it left a bit of an impact (creepy, dark, cold, and dank feeling) that he leave in all places he uses the force in. You can rewind, it just needs to make sense. Creepy dream, or a halucination. It is okay as long as it makes sense
