|
|
I didn't know exactly where to put this (the Pit needs a General Star Wars discussion forum!), but writing is a kind of art, I figured, so here it sits.
Out of all the Star Wars novels, which one did you like the least? I know we all love Star Wars, but even the most diehard fan has to admit that some there are a few books out that just aren't well-written (be it writing style, plot, whatever). So what's yours? Post just one or a list. If you honestly liked all of the novels you read, post that as well. I'm just curious. _________________ Arek | Kage |

Im currently trying to read Tales from Jabba's Palace. It is hard to get through. granted you are supposed to read each short story in one sitting, but the only time i have had to read recently is the 10 minute bus ride, so they arent getting done in one go, and it is just hard to read. some of the stories are cool, seeing things from different perspectives, but hard to digest in small sittings. _________________ The Vong have Arrived

I loved all the "Tales of..." books. I understand what you mean though, 10 minutes is about the time it takes to start really getting immersed in a story.
I forgot to put what my least favorite was. The first one that comes to mind is The Crystal Star, by Vonda McIntyre(?) *Checks* Forgot the middle initial: N. _________________ Arek | Kage |

That was my least favorite too, the Crystal Star that is. Talk about a hard read! It was so out of sync, I didn't even finish the darned thing. I tried to read it three times and finally gave up. _________________ Check out some of my games at DriveThruRPG!

From what I remember, my least-favorite written book was Shadows of the Empire. Having Leia refer to herself as "sister" just wasn't cutting it for me... |

I second Crystal Star. I read it once, finished it, went "wuh-huh?!?" with drool coming out my mouth.... tried reading it again a year later, which caused the "wuh-huh?!?" and drooling again.
It seemed like a bunch of characters created for another novel just given the names "Luke", "Han", "Leia", etc... And yet another thing that screws around with the Force, powering down Luke.... and yet another old flame of Han.
And Waru... yeeesh. _________________ The Enteague Sector | Cracken's Collection of Crackpots

Is Crystal Star the one where Leia disguises herself by combing her hair over her face? If so, I was sorely tempted to burn my copy. _________________ "I take orders from just one person: Me!"

I think so. But I only read it once, when I was about 12 I think. It was, as hisham said, as if a bad sci-fi author had written a crappy book and then decided that maybe she could get a publisher for it if she made it a Star Wars novel. At least I finished it though. _________________ Arek | Kage |

Leia was running around trying to find her kidnapped kids, which I can't even remember how they were kidnapped to start with. Some Peadophile/child slaver had them on this weird ship? _________________ "I take orders from just one person: Me!"

Plus there were fantasy centaurs and ghost-like succubus things, IIRC. I was expecting white bearded wizards and drows to pop-up in the middle of the novel. _________________ The Enteague Sector | Cracken's Collection of Crackpots

Just found it on Wookiepedia, Definately the same novel. I say to Lucas, forget finding all the copies of the Holiday Special, seek out all copies of The Crystal Star and destroy them. And ban Vonda McIntyre from writting ever again!! _________________ "I take orders from just one person: Me!"

Yeah, Hethrir was the dude's name. Man, I really thought there'd be more disparity on the subject than this! Good to know I wasn't alone in my assessment of the book (especially at such a young age).
I'm kind of surprised that you didn't like Shadows of the Empire, Skyler. I don't consider it one of my favorites, but I did enjoy it.
Anyone have any other novels you didn't like, aside from the Crystal Star? _________________ Arek | Kage |

Don't get me wrong. The story line itself was kinda interesting, especially the play between Vader and Xizor. It was more the writing itself that turned me off. Had the wordcraft been done better, the book could have been truly outstanding. |

The story is not too bad, it had the trappings of a fun pulp sci-fi tale but it seems like the writer was phoning it in... the wordcrafting that is... Steve Perry was it? I don't remember. _________________ The Enteague Sector | Cracken's Collection of Crackpots
