The problem with boosting one skill so high is that it's neglecting the rest of the skill groups. You may be the best Rifleman in the Universe, but that's useless in a Freighter that's getting nailed by Ties. All you can do is sit back with a fire extinguisher and put out the electrical fires. |
Great point Ray... I know many people in our SParks group that have certain skills way up there, so in their element are 'da bomb' but when out, just sit around twiddling their thumbs cause they would otherwise suck a@@.
As to me, unless i start going against the galaxies best at everything, i usually get my primary skills up to the 8-10D region, then i work everything else up to 5-6D... _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Yeah, that sort of extremely long running character is a bit of a different situation though. Long term character advancement to uber levels is a not the same as simply ramping up and focusing on stats |

True, but it can amount to the same thing if the players are allowed to only ever advance a few specific skills to the exclusion of all others... |

Every now and again we'd play them powered down, especially if we were running them with another group...but most of the time the GM just kicked the opposition up about fourteen or fifteen notches to give us a run for our money.
Plus, at those levels, sometimes the sessions just turned into more of a comic relief time than a serious campaign. It was a blast! |
That is exactly what we did, I had a player with a jedi that was just as powerful as vadar or skywalker. To make it interesting we just jacked up the opposition, sometimes he would come and player with lower level characters, kinda like a mentor. He would just kinda sit back and only jump in when someone was in danger. I rewarded based souly on his ablity to remain uninvolved. Just like I had a smuggler who had a high blaster skill, I have more fun not haveing to pull out my blasters, or just haveing funny making crazy shots to take out the oppostion. Oh man those where the times. |

Yes, it'd be MUCH fun to be able to sit in the background, calling every single shot you make... "Screwball, side pocket..." |
