Kabakh begins running a diagnostic on the Dream's comm system. Like his master, he's getting a little tired of a self-functioning ship. It's not natural, almost as if someone is operating the ship by remote. Or maybe when the Dream was being repaired someone programmed an artifical intelligence into the ship's computer, turning it into a giant droid.

to Qassar

"Master, besides yourself and Toba, who else helped in repairing the Dream back on the Peregrine?"

(OOC: communications to run the diagnostics on the comm)

Corric leans back in the pilots chair, watching the chaotic display that is hyperspace. After a few moments it becomes apparent that they aren't doing another microjump, and will in all likelihood be in hyperspace for a good while at least. He swivels his chair around to face Julan and the rest of the interior of the cockpit area. He smiles.

"Well, looks like we made it out all right, although there's still a few things I'm a bit hazy on. For instance, I thought we had those fighters grounded and de-prepped...I guess someone else took charge and ordered a launch. That and the station nearly coming apart... Anyway, let's see what the take was," Corric says. He begins inspecting the items he had grabbed from the control room, murmuring, "The processor, an officer's rank insignia and uniform which happens to be about three sizes too big, a fancy-schmancy dagger, and...what looks like a custom heavy blaster pistol." He squints at the dagger and especially the custom blaster, examining them closely. "What about you? Aside from the four blaster pistols, I mean. Did you run across anything else?"

[OOC: Blaster Repair 5D to determine stats and modification info on the blaster in addition to what it looks like. Melee Weapon Repair isn't a skill, so I guess Technical 4D to do the same for the dagger.]

Katterwall vainly tried to recall Farghul honorifics and... (failed?) KNO 2D
"Um, yes. Skills. We'll see."

Cal smooths his hair back, standing up from the bunk. "Thanks, Dev," he sais. "I'm feeling much better, and still improving. Let me know what you can about that poison."

He heads to the bridge. Popping his head in he says, "I'll get right on that diagnostic, Captain. By the way," he adds, a little sheepishly, "Sorry I wasn't able to help out in our getaway. That bounty hunter nailed me with some kind of poison dart; if I hadn't detoxified it, I'd probably be dead right now. Dev's doing the workup on it as we speak."

Cal walks onto the bridge, going to the computer station to set up and begin diagnostics.

Everything on the comm checks out until Kabakh comes across a program for remote linking by an external computer. Tracing its directory, he sees that it is in a file installed by Cal.

"Master, just did a diagnostic on the comm system. Something in here you probably aren't gonna like. There's a program to link the comm remotely to an extrenal computer system. Directory says it was installed by Cal."

Julan sits back and crosses her arms while glaring through the viewscreen, "Well, I didn't have time to collect much now did I? I had a nice stash of stuff back at the bar, but I suppose that's gone for good now."

She glances around the interior of the ship, "Of course, I suppose you could consider this as something."

Corric determines that the dagger is more for show than for fighting (Str+2). The pistol in question is a BlasTech DT-12 with no outward modifications.

(OOC-Sorry, misunderstood.)

Dev finds no sign of a transmitter in the dart.

As soon as the Dream makes the second hyper-jump, Toba hastily unstraps from the turret and rushes towards the cockpit.

"Blasted possessed ship! It's the droids. I tell you, it's the droids! That treadwell has too many arms for its own good..."

As Toba runs for the cockpit, he sees the kid coming out of one of the ship's access crawlways carrying what looks like a small grey box tucked under his arm. The kid sees Toba and rushes toward him.

Toba is startled and tries to casually signal the kid to stay away, go back to hiding and wait there.

"Not. The. Best. Time."

He says through clenched jaws.

Corric winces as he wraps the dagger and blaster back up in the Lieutenant Colonel's uniform. He reaches up and rubs the back of his neck, saying, "Yeah, wish we'd had time to double back and get your stuff, but somehow I don't think that would have worked out all that well. The bright side is that I should be able to swing that deal now that we have this." He indicates the ship. "You'll get your new life, Julan."

Cal hears Kabakh's comment and pipes right up. "That's right," Cal says quickly. "How often have we needed to blast off, only to have to run through preflight first, or needed to check the ship's logs, but had to traipse all the way back to the ship? I've added a relay that'll allow me to remotely access the ship. I'm not sure of the range, but this will allow us to use any ship's functions remotely. Heck," he adds, that half-smile crossing his lips, "with that new centralized upgraded console they installed aboard the Peregrine I'll bet we could even remotely fly her if we needed to." He looks directly at Qassar. "I only put that in to help you and the crew, sir. If you don't like having that capability, say the word and I'll disable it when I do the diagnostics you ordered."

Kabakh turns to face Cal. As he does so, the intensity of the light of his photorecpetors dims a little.

"You installed a program so that you could operate the ship by remote? What's to stop you from taking the ship away from the Master?"

Cal looks Kabakh right in the photoreceptors. "The fact that I'm under his command. The fact that this is his ship. The fact that that's not something I would ever do, let alone think of doing. In fact, I hadn't thought of it until you mentioned it.

I'm not a mutineer. I'm a 15 year old kid who's maybe finally found a group of people worth working for, a group that MIGHT just be able to keep me alive despite the Emperor's best efforts to the contrary. I wouldn't purposely do anything that I had any notion would bring any harm at all to this crew. You're all the family I have. I would never jeapordize that, kabakh. NEVER."

to Cal
"Then you wouldn't mind giving this access to the Master now, would you. It is his ship after all.

"Of course a ship suddenly taking off when the Imperials is likely to get the ship destroyed without an expert pilot at the helm. And if it starts operating on it's own when they have confirmed no one is on board by having spies see all of us depart, that could be used as a means to track who ever has the remote."
