I got a simple question. How many character points do you normally give a player who role-played well per session? |

It would depend on how much you game and how long the session is. normally i give 1-5 based on rping, and 1-5 on just working on the adventure . And i game once a week. _________________ The Vong have Arrived

Usually I make it dependant on what happened in the game.
If it was a slow game where not a lot happened (such as the characters finally repairing their hyperdrive and making it back to base then having downtime to spend existing character points) then it can be as low as 3-4 character points. However in an action filled game where a lot happened sometimes it gets as high as 7-8 character points.
I know the system seems to penalize the players when the GM could be to blame for a slow game but it also encourages the player not to just sit around beefing up skills and waiting for plot leads to fall in their lap. |

2-8 was the highs and lows for my group. If you just showed up and sat at the table, you got two. Five was the highest that you got for good gaming.
Every game you had the opportunity to get up to three "Kicker" points that could be given by anyone other than you with the GM's approval. Not always in game, either.
Typically, this was saying really, really funny, but good ideas, giving the GM food, working out a complex physics calculation, or figuring out the Shares System of the Far Orbit Fleet (Which was very complicated!).
On a very, very, very rare occasion it's gone as high as 12, but that was an epic game. |

Ok cus my players have been complaining on how long its taking them to get better when i give an automatic 3 then up to 8 based on role playing and an additional few if you say some funny stuff "in character." The most I ever gave a player was 14 beacuse he made us all laugh for twenty minutes when he said to a human who just ran out of a pub scared for his life, "Boy, you look like a gundark who just had his ears pulled off!"
Also if they manage to defeat or complete something I didn't oringally have them completing until a few sessions later I give them a few extra points |

Yeah we use this too. Generally you have to get at least two 'kickers' to get eight character points in a session |

Since most of my gaming revolves around doing modules, i use a 7pt reward for each module completion. Sometimes i break that up, like say
Module - smackin that behind.
survive the big booty - 4cp
Winning the dance off - +2cp
Entering the dance off without supervisor pushing - +1cp
In addition, each game after it is over, we have the players vote who on the table did the best rping, in accordance with their character.
First place gets +3cp
Second gets +2cp
Third place gets +1cp _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

I usually give around 1-5 character points. This is based on roleplaying, progression of the game, what the characters did and such stuff. I've never reached beyond 5 CP's, since my group of players usually just like to go around killing everything and not really RP that much. I don't really have a system for how many points should be given, for me that is just personal opinion. |

Sad to say, but in some games the GM gave rewards for showing up on time. It was the only way to get one of the players to get there at a reasonable time. By reasonable I mean less then 2 hours late.
I'd rather just start without them and then let their XP be reflective to the fact they weren't there the whole story. I mean, there is a difference between real life getting in the way and then just blowing it off. But if you are going to be late a courtesy call is appreciated. _________________ Luke, I am your father.

My two centicreds.
Idle game (not much action, player was passive) 2-3CP.
Standard game (some action, player active) - 4-5CP.
Intensive game (lot of action, player very active) - 6-7CP.
Final game (end of campaign, big boss defeat etc.) - 9-10CP.
If players had hard times (big troubles, lot of CPs spent, but not because of stupid decisions, just because I made things too hard) I'm adding 1-2 CPs for most abused players.
Sometimes I'm giving additional 1-2CP for brilliant ideas (usually when player outwits GM).
One more thing - difference between lowest and highest CP reward among players in my games rarely exceed 2 CP. It's not veery rare situation when all players receive identical number of CPs. |

Same here. Usually, I give an identical number of CP's the players. Not because I would feel bad to give different points out but because they usually all perform the same. |

3 or 4 per session flat rate. then i give a few more depending on roleplaying their character. and then 1 or 2 in the "holy crap i can't believe you pulled that of" catigory if it aplies. and sometimes 1 or two if they can make me say "ok that was cool." |

Wa... your gm gave him cp to encourage him to show up on time, and he was still late... Sounds like this guy could have been done without. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

one thing my group decided on (for one game) is when increasing skills don't add in the attribute. now i understand the reasioning behind adding in the attribute but when we took this out my players felt more gratification with their skill progression. (we only used this once since it makes powergaming easier) |

Actually he was pretty good about being within 30 minutes if there was a reward for being on time....without the award his average lateness is 2 hours without a phone call to the record of 6 and half hours before he called and 7 and a half before he actually showed up.
I just don't think you should bribe someone to show up. Let them fall behind for being late. (I mean, if you show up half an hour you haven't missed much. But 2-6? Yeah, you won't get the same kind of XP.) I don't want anyone to think I'd penalize people for real life getting in the way; I mean things come up. But responsible people call and say "Hey I can't make it" or "I have to be late"; and do it around the time you were supposed to meet not right before they decide to head over. A 15 minute heads up on your 6 hour late arrival only makes everyone stop playing and vent about your lack of punctuality. _________________ Luke, I am your father.
