What supplements are compatible with 2nd edition. Exclude adventure modules as I have no interest in them. And try to avoid anything that requires conversion...unless...it is really needed.

Thanks.

If you look here:
http://www.rancorpit.com/WestEndGamesBooks.html
The vast majority of the sourcebooks that aren't modules are compatible with 2nd Edition, and even the 1st Ed ones don't require too much conversion. I think almost everything from the 2nd Edition corebook down (original, not revised) is 2nd Ed, with a few minor exceptions which are modules, which you don't care about. Publication date is a good guideline, too, anything after 1992 is probably 2nd Ed.

That was quick and thanks...I appreciate it. It makes it much more easy to get the books I want. It is just too bad the money I spend won't go to WEG. Sad

What exactly is a Adventure Journal?

Adventure Journal was a digest sized magazine, about the thickness of a paperback book, that was published by WEG back in the day. It contained fiction, adventure modules, science fiction and Star Wars news, they rock. I have about 5 of them, trying to complete my collection. There's 15 total, it was published roughly bi-monthly.

Yeah, everything after October of 1992 is compatable. There are a few strange things in the Heir to the Empire book, but that's just because they hadn't gotten their nomoclature down for the 2nd ed yet. The mechanics of everything in the book still works fine.

The adventure journals are pretty good. I've got one, and I really wished I had picked up more. They'll have stats, stories, deckplans, and all sorts of good tidbits. Mostly it's fiction written with the RPG in mind, and so the fiction has stats for the main characters. It's really nice.

I found a complete set of Adventure Journals at GenCon 2 years ago. I stopped looking but they may still have more there. There was a booth that has all books at half price. I don't remember their name though.

Adventure journals were put out quarterly (one every 3 months). They are hard to find (as a set at least) but pop up often individually. Most people have a hard time getting a set (you were lucky to find a whole set at half-off).

Unless you're a serious collector or want a specific adventure journal for it's content (there were many things that were not re-printed in other books); then I'd stick with "Best of the Adventure Journals 1-4" to see if you might even be interested in them before searching for them.

As for "must haves". If you can get Revised and Expanded & Tales of the Jedi those two can take you a long way. I'd recommend one of the two Alien Galaxy Guides (#4&12) or the rare and hard to find "Alien Encounters" if your group is going to want to have some more racial diversity than the core. Outside of that, I'd look at the other galaxy guides and supplements that's theme matches your style of adventures or campaign. (There are pirating, smuggling, bounty hunting books and many more.) Slowly add the kinds of books that you will use now; as your game changes so may the books you buy.

I can say that I've never regretted a WEG book I've bought, only the ones I didn't.

If you're looking to get a good series of start-up books, then you can go a long way with Galaxy Guide 6: Tramp Freighters, Tales of the Jedi Companion, and Galaxy Guide 12: Aliens: Enemies and Allies.

Beyond that, I agree with Endwyn, it's really about what you want to do with your campaign.
