Well, I managed to get two copies of the R&E Core book (in excellent condition, I might add) off of eBay for only a couple of US$ each. (Heh, shipping cost more than the books!) So, I would suggest giving it a try. I was able to give my old book to my son for him and his friends to play with...passing on the tradition to a new generation. Very Happy

There are means to acquire them illegally, but you will have to figure that out on your own, since this group no longer supports piracy.

Protect the copyrights on these books that have been out of print for at least 11 years, we will.

Visit Ebay.com, you must.

Well. As far as this forum is concerned, at any rate.

That being said, I just managed to snag a copy of both Pirates and Privateers and the Far Orbit Project on eBay for $60 total, and I also got used (and slightly water-damaged) copies of all 4 DarkStryder Campaign items (boxed set and the 3 books) from my local game store for dirt cheap prices the other day, so I certainly pay for enough stuff, as well.

Do you guys feel that the Deckplans book is really, really, overpriced?
Have you seen what that goes for? And I thought I overpaid for Tramp Freighters!

Which deckplan book do you mean? If you're referring to Stock Ships, then I agree, the prices for it on eBay are crazy, when it's available. Unfortunately, most of the later WEG books are in high demand, so the prices tend to be high. I lucked out getting those two I just got for so cheap.

Yes, Stock Ships.
And the book isn't all that good, IMHO. They tease you with a Falcon on the cover, yet the ship isn't even included in the book.

That's one of the worst books I think, when you account for after market price.

It isn't worth the asking price at all.

I have no problem with the Falcon not being included, the Falcon is in the main rulebook, as is the Ghtroc. Stock Ships is good for an assortment of other types of ships. None of that is necessary, anyway, when you can download Gry's Starship Stats book for free. That has EVERY ship in it.

Well, no need to buy it then, obviously. I wasn't particularly impressed with it either, which is why I haven't bought a copy.

I paid $20 for it, and I've gotten at least that much worth out of it for my gaming. My players always kept winding up on someone else's ship for one reason or another, and the vast amount of deckplans were really important to me. Though, the story factors have been helpful a few times as well.

But, the book really could have been better. More ships would have been a good thing, but all in all, I'm not sad for the $20 I paid. Why, are they going for more now?

I will say that some of the aftermarket price on some of the books is just ridiculous. I've seen Hideouts and Stronholds go for $120 (I picked up mind for $5 over Newyears). Pirates and Privateers routinely went for $25 while I was watching (I got mine for $8).

I'm wondering what makes a book a high-price classic, and what makes a book a cheapy.

Well, I've recently aquired it from an on-line friend for a mere 5 bucks. I think it's a great book, though some of the ships could have been a bit more inspired. The only complain I have is that some of the pages are starting to fall off.
