Those are very reasonable stats, Dooku. I only think you forgot to add "Tactics: Space Combat".

Would you include both Rogue and Wraith Squadrons in the same fan book or would you give them separate ones? I personally would give them separate ones and would be willing to work on that one after a Rogue Squadron book is finished. The Wraiths are statted for d20 in an issue of Star Wars Gamer (9, I think). I was going to find it and bring it back from my parents' house once I have gone there. There is so much each of the subseries that I think that they ought to get their own books.
I guess it depends on the focus. Do you want to make a book specifically about these famous squadrons or do you want to make a book for starfighter pilots that features them but includes other info? I don't see why they couldn't be combined into one book. Personally I think stats for Wedge and his buddies are interesting but at most they would make a cameo appearance in one of my games. I would prefer a book that includes lots of general information about the job of being a starfighter pilot using Rogue and/or Wraith squadrons as examples.

I agree. I don't really see the point in doing two books, one on each squadron. The real aim of this book should be "wanna play a starfighter squadron campaign? This is the book for you", more of an "X-Wing Sourcebook", but using the approach of Wedge's squadron(s).

Listing all the stats for the heroes, enemies and neutrals of those books is just part of the fun. To make this a rich book we should really come up with some cool stuff regarding the inner-workings of a starfighter squadron, ranks, obligations, procedures, as well as some alternative combat rules.

Summing up. Yes, include Wraith Squadron in this book as well...

How does this look for a tentative table of contents? I am basing it somewhat on Pirates and Privateers.

Chapter One: A Brief History of the Role of Starfighters

Chapter Two: Life as a Starfighter Pilot
General information as well as specifics including rank and procedures of the Alliance/New Republic and the Empire

Chapter Three: Operations and Missions

Chapter Four: Ships and Equipment

Chapter Five: Rogue Squadron

Chapter Six: Wraith Squadron

Chapter Seven: Other Famous Squadrons
Including Salm's Y-Wing, Fel's TIE, and Kyp's Dozen-and-Two squadrons

Chapter Eight: Historic Starfighter Engagements
This can include planet information from the X-Wing series and other miscellany

Chapter Nine: A Starfighter Squadron Campaign

Chapter Ten: Alternative Starfighter Combat

That's a good start, but I just feel it looks to much like a "Starfighter Guidebook" with Rogue Squadron thrown in, while I think it would be better to use Rogue Squadron as a gateway to explore all aspects of starfighter combat. Probably start the book focusing on Rogue Squadron and it's offshots and then gradually broaden the scope to deal with everything starfighter.

Well then, we go to the next best (or perhaps even better than the original) thing, and have GRY do the stats! Since he is, after all, just like (or better than) having a WEG guy here doing them...

What i don't qualify?? Sad Sad

They look better, but i still think he has 11d piloting or so.

Then perhaps that is what we should make it..

I like this. Perhaps we can insert some starfighter tactics here that were used during particular battles. If we have the art capabilities it would be nice to have some illustrations in the flavor of the A-wing Slash tactic in The Last Command sourcebook.

Pity I am moving house and have packed ... almost everything... - otherwise I'd put my hand up to assist. Sad

I love the books and think this Sourcebook (wether a Rogue/Wraith Sourcebook, or Starfighter Combat Sourcebook) will be Ace! It's already on my "to download from The Rancor Pit" list. Very Happy

From the X-Wing games (certainly also a source of info for this book) I also remember Flight Cadet and Lieutenant. And don't forget that Wedge got to the rank of General while still flying a starfighter.

Gry, it took me a little while to catch on, but I think I understand what you mean as a gateway, though I still am probably misinterpreting it. Keeping the chapters basically the same in content, but starting each chapter with the relevant information for Rogue Squadron and placing the generalized information later in the chapter would be in line with using Rogue Squadron as a gateway, I think. Also perhaps reording the chapters to

Chapter One: A Brief History of the Role of Starfighters
Chapter Two: Rogue Squadron
Chapter Three: Life as a Starfighter Pilot
Chapter Four: Operations and Missions
Chapter Five: Ships and Equipment
Chapter Six: Wraith Squadron
Chapter Seven: Other Famous Squadrons
Chapter Eight: Historic Starfighter Engagements
Chapter Nine: A Starfighter Squadron Campaign
Chapter Ten: Alternative Starfighter Combat

Depending on the primacy we want to give Wraith Squadron, we can move its chapter to three or leave it where it is.

We could also write the narrative from the perspective of a Rogue Squadron veteran halping a cadet through his first few missions, like Tirog et al in the Revised and Expanded rulebook.

IIRC, wasn't Luke a commander in TESB?

Luke was a commander in ESB, and Wedge is commander in the first (and probably other) Rogue Squadron book.

Indeed, Wedge is only promoted to General around the time of Dark Empire, I think.

And I like the idea of making the book slightly from an in-universe perspective, with a character guiding the reader through the squadron history.

I think the perspective that would prove the most fun, would be to tell it from Wes Janson's Perspective Very Happy

But then again, i always love telling things with a bit of a joking edge on it.
