Well, I'm posting my experiences here. Mainly the Star Warriors mix. So far I'm pretty happy with the results I'm getting. Once I start playing and define all rules I'll make a definite post with a collection of house rules.

My players don't like the restrictions of two dimensional space combat. They love the "fly by the seat of your pants" feel that descriptions do. The only issue has been with maneuvers. They never covered how maneuvers help (like barrel rolls) in the RPG book. So basicly I adlib most of the combat maneuvering and use opposed rolls.

Same with my group.
But that is cool because every group is different.

It's official: I am a flip-flopper. Shocked
I have, since my last post, tried Star Warriors again. And, well Embarassed it is better than I remembered. Matter of fact, we are planning campaigns with missions that require space combat.

I am going to change some of the hazards somewhat, and damage will be done with the weapons RPG stats versus the RPG hull/shields.

Hehe, it seems you're pretty much following the same route I am. Let's share experiences and see how we can help each other with these house rules. Check out my previous posts, including my RPG -> Star Warriors conversion tables and modified Hazzard table.

Sounds like a plan.

Well, I've finally started playing this starfighter campaign of mine, and the system I previously mentioned is working quite well. It still needs some ironing out, mainly on the issue of simultaneous movements, but it works great otherwise.

I thought I'd share with you guys the control sheet I created for this starfighter combat. It's basically a simplified Star Warriors sheet with some extra things like shield and energy control and a dash of style. Hope you like it. It was designed to use dice as control markers.

Very stylish sheet, Gry.

We have been playing Star Warriors off and on... we have simplified the hazards to speed up play (we only use Action Penalty, Stabilizer Damage, Turn # Increase, and Lose Action, I think...)

Wow, that sheet looks good. Do I sense another great pdf supplement on starfighters coming along? Very Happy I wish I had Star Warriors so I knew what you guys are talking about rules-wise. I'll have to start scouring ebay.

im curious, have any of you gotten the Star Wars Miniatures Starship Battles?

I have a bunch of them, and have played half a dozen games, and it has turned out really well. had to change a few rules, as it is an oversimplified rule system. But the figures are quite well done, and the mechanics actually work really well for large scale battles.

A Starfighter pdf coming? No, not really.

But who knows, maybe some day we can create that lost Rogue Squadron Sourcebook, including a chapter on alternate starfighter combat rules. That would be cool.

I've picked up a couple of cases of the new Star Wars Miniatures Starship Battles. The miniatures themselves are great, but the game as it came from Wizards is aweful. I would highly recommend it for people that need some new ships to use in their campaign, but if you want to play the game itself its costs quite a bit just to get the ships you need together. And you HAVE to add some rules. Really just adding range and shielding for capital ships makes it a much better game and removes the restrictions on using the small map that it came with.

I have been working a bit on stats for the Rogue Squadron books. I have seen a bit of difficulty because I started with Wedge as an upper limit (basically) on the pilot skills of the rest of the pilots, but apparently in the THrawn trilogy he is only about 2D better of a pilot than the standard x-wing fighter pilot. When I get back to my house in a couple of days, I shall have to post the stats that I have.

I have gotten some of the starship miniatures. They are very nice but I have not had the opportunity to play the game.

Or if you can beg WEG enough (or bribe) they do have the X-Wing Sourcebook in pieces (done according to one that works there). It never made it to the printer.

I am not sure about being able to get the WEG one, because according to Wookiepedia,

"The X-Wing Rogue Squadron Sourcebook was a proposed West End Games sourcebook that would cover the characters, events, and backstory of the X-wing novels. The majority was to be written by Eric Trautmann; there would also be a short story by Michael Stackpole detailing Corran Horn's experiences at the Battle of Bilbringi. It was to be 144 pages and cost $25.

After WEG went bakrupt, the only remaining copy of the sourcebook was held on a CD which was later discovered to have been corrupted. "

Edit: Though I suppose that one does have to consider that it is a wiki. I, though, am willing to accept it unless another credible claim is made.

After speaking to the WEG people at GenCon in '05, one said that there was indeed a copy (proof I believe) but not sure where it was anymore <cough..bookcase..cough>. Perks of the job. Smile
