Thought I would post an update.
I have started creation of an RPG Tool, so far I have done the following:
Adding new templates
Adding new species
Create a character based on a template but without equipment
Features that will be added before first beta release:
Equipment (getting starting equipment and credits from the template)
Save/Load character
Missing features that is high on priorites list:
Specialisations on skills
Updateing character once its created (with CP)
There are also a number of features that Im thinking about and that might come later (depending on how hard they are to implement), a few of these are:
Conversion from d20 to d6
Connect to a server that allows you to store a character and a GM to approve it, hand out CP for the character and so on. |

There is still a while before the first beta is out, and it will only have character creation abilities, the rest will come as I have time to add it.
I also noticed a few things I missed in the character creation proccess, but Im working on adding it now.
Also species features will not be in the first beta, but it will be added at a later date. |

Because of dataloss I hade to restart the hole project and Im setting it up difrently now as well so it will take a while longer to do everything but once its done it should work well.
Depending on the amount of time I have a beta should be out before x-mas, but there is no garantee.
Is anyone inserested in helping me beta test this once I finished so much that its possible to test it? |

This is something similar to a program I started about a year ago and just got caught up in other stuff.
I too am using VB.NET/VB 2005. It originally started off as a tool for the D20 version, but then my friends and I decided to start a game in the d6 version and I decided to create one for d6.
I can help out with a program. I have some knowledge in Java. Let me know.
Vong, which version of VB are you using? If it's .NET/2005 I would be willing to lend a hand. |

So, how goes the work on the program? Feeling the strain of the project yet? I hope all is going well.
Anyway, I just thought I'd send a note of encouragement, and if you need a hand, the community is always willing to do what we can. |

Can I just say that this is one of the coolest projects I have seen in a long time. A working character database would be super! Espeially if you can add and save extra species, equipment etc. later. That way you dont have to type every single stat, and it would be very flexible.
Good luck! |

Beause of RL situation I didnt have time to post here or work on the tool at all for a long time.
I have now released the first beta thou, its far from finished and you cant even select skills yet but its a start anyway.
The features it does have now are (in short):
Import and Export Species and Templates (it will need to be redone a litle when new features are added)
Save and Load characters
Select Template, species (this is also automaticly selected when selecting the template), gender, age, height, weight, name.
You get the attributes selected from the template.
The next version I will add a couple of more things, among them are:
Force Points
Dark Side Points
Move
Equipment
Will also start to work on the skills section but will most likely release at least one more version of the client before the skills section is done.
Information on how to join the beta testing, general information and the client can be found at http://www.starwars-rpg.com/ |

Hmm... I can't run the setup. It tells me in the DOS window that opens "program too big to fit in memory." |

Ok, I found why the setup isnt working, Ill fix it and should have a new one out in a few days (will update the client at the same time), hopefully it will be out by tomorrow but it depends on how much time I get left over. |

Just thought I would give anyone interested an update.
I have just posted a new version of my software on my webpage. While its far from done it does include a number of features now. The Application is actually two separate applications, one for creating, updating and maintaining the characters, one to manage all the data (templates, species and so on)
you can do the following in this version:
Create a new, save and load a character
Select template, getting the attributes and species from it (as well as equipment but the equipment isn't in the database yet).
Select different species then the template.
change the attributes to fit your own character.
select skills and raise them (as well as lower them if you like)
Select force powers as well as set force points, dark side points, and force skills.
see what special abilities and story factors you get from the species (not all of these have a description in the database yet thou).
add and remove equipment from the character (the database does not contain much (if any not sure) equipment)
write a background, objective, quote, personality, character connection and other notes about the characters (these are also saved and loaded).
The Data Manager can "only" Export and Import characters in this version, but its the first version of the Data Manager so it will be added to in the near future.
Anyone is free to come with comments, suggestions and so on, this includes what features you would like to see and what features you think should get a higher priority to be completed. Anyhow, all comments are welcome.
Oh also, if there is no interest in the software let me know that to and I wont keep posting updates online. |
