Hey all,
I was wondering- Have the various letter combos at the front of the ST names been explained? Do they mean anything? I know TK1138 is reference to Lucas' first film, but does the TK moniker mean anything now? Or TS?

Actually you got things a little mixed. The only ST number we officially know of is TK-421, who Luke and co. dominate in the Death Star. THX-1138 is the cell block Luke claims he's making a prisoner transfer from when they enter the detention area with Chewie. The homage to Lucas' first film was something Mark Hamill came up with at the spot, and George Lucas didn't even notice it at the time.
So, to answer your question, no I don't know if there's any known system to Stormtrooper naming... But many others have been named in the Expanded Universe. _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

Not really RPG related, but the costuming group The 501st Legion has defined Stromtrooper naming.
TK- regular Stormtroopers
TD- Sandtroopers
TX- special operations Troopers
TB - Biker Scouts
TI - Tie pilots
TR - Royal Guards
TS - Snowtrooper
IG - Imperial gunner
The prefix is followed by a number generally 3 to 4 numbers
For Example, My membership number is IG-6369 Cause I have a gunner's costume. _________________ http://www.boomspeed.com/reaperden/ErcID.jpg |

I don't see any walker pilot designations in that list. I'd be suprised if there's not a single guy with a AT-AT pilot suit in the 501st. |

I always thought those letters and numbers refered to
A) first letter - brigade
B) second letter - division within that brigade
C) numbers - unit and individual designation in the division. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Walker pilots are in the Imperial Army, not the Stormtrooper Corps, officially, at any rate. I suspect the Army has different naming conventions. _________________ Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid. |

Adding to the list, by demand it appears -
AT-ST driver - IS
AT-AT driver - TA
Imperial Officer - ID
Imperial Crew member - IC (includes Bridge crew and scanning crew)
Imperial Naval Trooper - IN
Clone Trooper - TC _________________ http://www.boomspeed.com/reaperden/ErcID.jpg |
