Me again!
I have had a player ask about playing an "Elf" in Star Wars. I have the D6 Fantasy book and was wondering should it just be a straight port over and not worry about balancing the advantages because in Star Wars you don't worry about that.
If anyone has suggestions, they are welcome. _________________ Luke, you're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.

I've personally never seen any D6 books other than Star Wars, but as long as they are based on the 12D NPC/18D PC standards, or somewhere near there, I wouldn't see a problem. I would suggest that the player come up with a more interesting species name than "elf" or "dwarf" or so.

Agreed and he is supposed to do that really soon here and I know where he is going after running with him for over 10 years but he might surprise me yet.
The way he smiled though I think he has something up his sleeve..... _________________ Luke, you're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.

Most assuredly, yes. Players always have something up there sleeves. I always do. Though, as I've gotten older, I always try to temper my desires with expanding my idea of the "coolness factor" with making something that doesn't detract from the other players' game.

Sure, if you and your group want an elf-like species in your game, that's perfectly alright. I agree that you should try to make that fit a little better into the Star Wars universe, so I was looking for an existing race which you could use as a basis for this elf-alien.
The best species I could find were the Nagai and the Sharu, which both have an elf-like look and good attributes (I trust you have my Aliens Stats book, so look them up). However, since neither really have all the abilities you would expect from an elf, you could have your friend play a "Near-Nagai" or "Near-Sharu", meaning a cross between that species and some other unknown one. This gives you the freedom to add or remove Special Abilities and tweak the attributes to better fit your desire, while maintaining a decent amount of "officiality".... _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

Gry Sarth, Ladies and Gentlemen! Gry Sarth! A big round of applause for His Greatness!
Now I need to go look at Alien Stats and check these two species out for myself. Always a font of information, this guy.

I would add in:
Elves are a long lived race, and as such, do no persue objectives as feverously as humans would. This has also reared it's ugly head in how they view combat/death. They won't willing go into a combat, and at first cnace will run. Even if forced to stay, they will spend most of the combat, being defensive. Cause of this, they must keep their parry/reaction skills 2d higher than their attack skills. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

I don't think I'd put that in as a mechanical aspect of the character, so much as a story factor. There are plenty of long lived species in the Star Wars universe that don't have similar mechanical stipulations.
But yeah, it's something that should be represented in the portrayal of the character's behaviour and personality. |
