If someone say, went EVA to try and board an imperial space ION mine, say with the intent to capture it/disable it, but was still EVA when it went off, would it shut down his suit? Would he suffer any exposure problems cause of it??

Well, if caught in the ION blast, he would be out of luck. His suit would shut down, there-fore his heating/cooling systems would crash, his CO2 scrubbers would cease to function, his electronics package would be toast, there goes his locator beacon, and he would be floating dead in space until such time as his residual oxygen was used up and he became hypoxic, then unconscious and then dead unless he was rescued in time.

The rule is... don't go kicking ION mines with an EVA suit.

yep it's realy a bad idea to play football in a anti-personnal mine field...

With other words, try to disable the mine with range weapon like Jawa ion rifle whereas put your bottom on it Wink

Ok. If I understand clearly (Sorry English is not my native language Embarassed ), someone in vacuum suit close to a ion mine when it is activated.
First, what did the mine ? explode or use its ion cannon? I can't imagine an explosion of ion particule to be really effective.
But if it is the case in your question, standard rules apply: starfighter scale ion damage vs vacuum suit hull damage (character scale). All electronic equipment in the suit should be probably disabled. That means, heat system is down, live support system is down, sensors are down, communication circuits are down... Character is only protected vs vacuum but it will suffer quickly of cold and lake of good air to breath.
There is an exemple in Extended Universe (T. Zahn): Mara Jade was obliged to eject herself from her Z-95 during Fleet katana recovery. Unfortunately she ejected in a ion beam coming from one of the four Dreadnaughts in Alliance side.

Honestly, not sure. To my knowledge of ion mines, they are like our earth based mines... 360 sphere of energy... good for one pulse.

IIRc that was the wash from the ISD;s ion bombardment...

Well if the character is in the blast range, standard damage rules apply.

You know, it occurs to me that Star Wars technology is such that there ought to be either ion-proof EVA suits or ion-proof backup systems for EVA suits.

Using ion-proof EVA suits ion cannons simply aren't an issue. This is convenient, but unsatisfying.

Ion-proof backup systems would allow an EVA suit to sustain life for long enough to reboot the systems, but would leave you practically helpless aside from the most basic life support until the systems are back online.

The primary things you'd need for backups are oxygen and heat. Simple manual releases on your oxygen tanks covers the oxygen. Heating is a little more complex, but possible. Criss-cross the inner lining of the suit with micro-vascular tubes that carry an inert liquid chemical. When needed, a manual seal can be broken that releases a second chemical into the tubes that acts as a catalyst for a chemical reaction that produces heat throughout the tube system. The second chemical could be spread throughout the suit by means of a manual pumping system powered by simply pumping one's arms and legs vigorously.

The secondary thing of concern is radiation protection, but if you're relying on some sort of powered radiation shielding instead of a good old-fashioned lead weave you deserve all the misery you get.

It would even be possible to attach manually operated aerosol hand-thrusters to allow for limited movement and travel.

Bringing this back to the forefront.

Was mentioned below. How much 'air' would a standard suit carry within when the tank gets shut off? What about how quickly the Carbon dioxide would make things harder to stay consious??

I would say that a standard suit would have probably a good ten minutes worth of air if the wearer wasn't panicking or doing anything at all really.

If you were to go by the novels, to get hit with that much ion damage, your nervous system would shut down as well.

Just as a reference, you can get aprox 45min of air if sealed in a coffin before things start to get bad.

Im sure they have a small compressed air supply, or at least a minimal filtering system....

But that is an interesting fact Smile

The MA-1 Bottle on my Jet lasts between 4-23 minutes (with-out refilling), depending on what you are doing. if you are freaking out and using more O2 than its not going to last that long, if your calm and not exerting yourself than the O2 will last longer. It also depends on the setting and the altitude. But 10 minutes is a good average! Although the MA-1 is about a foot and a 1/2 long and a foot in diameter, so its a fairly large bottle. But, I'm sure that the tech associated with a star wars pilots suit and survival gear is more compact. (Just look at those scuba diving gizmos in Episode 1)
