Hi
In my campain i need some kind of small, mobile, ground based vehicle that can take out freighters and starfighters.
Like a mobile anti-aircraft vehicle.
I have come up with the following, please evaluate it:
MOBILE ION CANNON
Craft: Thundergear.inc Mobile ion cannon
Type: Mobile ion cannon
Scale: Speeder
Length: 18 meters
Skill: Repulsorlift operation: mobile ion cannon
Crew: 1, gunners: 1
Crew skill: Varies widely
Passengers: 1
Cargo Capacity: 250 kilograms
Cover: Full
Altitude range: Ground level-2 meters
Cost: 35,000
Maneuverability: 1D
Move: 28; 80 kmh
Body Strength: 3D
Weapons:
Repeating blaster
Fire Arc: Turret
Crew: 1
Skill: Vehicle blasters
Fire control: 1D
Range: 3-50/120/300
Damage: 4D
Medium ion cannon
Fire Arc: Turret
Crew: 1
Skill: Vehicle blasters
Fire rate: 1/2
Fire control: 2D+2
Range: 1-300/700/3.6 km
Damage: 7D _________________ All stats 2D, except: brawling parry: versus boxing 2D+2, melee combat: swords 3D, melee parry: swords 2D+2, languages: english 2D+1, scolar: history 3D, scolar: social studies 2D+1, brawling: boxing 2D+2, computer programming/repair 2D+1. |

My .02 credits on it would be:
1) An antifighter weapon would probably need a starfighter-scale ion cannon perhaps 4D-5D damage, though the repeater could be vehicle-scale to target ground based threats.
2) I would also put 2 gunners on it instead of 1, for a total crew of 3.
3) A more complete name would be good. You have the manufacturer (Thundergear Inc.), you have the designation (mobile ion cannon) but the product name is missing, which would be like calling the X-Wing the "Incom Starfighter".
Hope it helps. _________________ The Enteague Sector | Cracken's Collection of Crackpots

Gonna second Hish's thoughts...
My only question: if it's basically a mobile artillery platform, maybe 1d Maneuverability is too high?
Otherwise I like it a lot. _________________ Blasted rules. Why can't they just be perfect? |

Thanks for your response.
Ok. now I have added 5,000 to the cost and added an extra gunner. The ion cannon is now starfighter scale with 4D+2 damage, enough to take out small starfighters and transports.
I havent found a new name, any thoughts?

I think at 18 meters, unless this thing is built out of tinfoil, it deserves to be Walker Scale.
As for a name... How does Thundergear Inc. Stormflare 770 Mobile Ion Cannon sound?
Oh yes, 80kmh is mind-numbingly slow. A Yugo with a radiator leak can outperform that. |

80 kmh is about 45 mph. Not real fast, but neither is it a snail. For a "mobile" ion artillery unit, it's probably a good speed. It's not like it has to go racing to places or out performing combat airspeeders.
Though I do like the idea of the name Stormflare.
Personally, I think Speeder scale works for it. I imagine it's probably on the frail side, so keeping it on the weaker side for hull, as well as scale, works well. |

It's a low-level hover unit, so 80kmh is too slow. I see it "digging in" as it readies itself to fire, but then speed becomes a moot point. It does have to be able to keep up with it's supporting armor units when not in action. Or maybe it doesn't need to dig in?
Also, I would put it at walker scale, it's size really adds some protection to it, yet would also make the 18m long behemoth easy to hit by opposing forces infantry.

Was thinking shouldn't the skill for the ION cannon be blaster artillery? (I may be misremembering editions) Or is that skill strictly for mortar like weapons? |
