Knowledge skill
Time to use: varies
This skill is used to train and/or domesticate non-sentient creatures
A single trick can be taught in a day or so (provided it is reinforced later) and domestication generally takes a few weeks/months.
System: Player rolls beast training vs the creatures orneryness if they player wins the creature is a step closer to being trained. (it takes about 3 successfull rolls to get an average creature to 'learn')
Situational modifiers such as food being offered can apply if the GM sees fit
So any ideas/improvements?

Maybe a list of tricks that can be taught...
"Fetch", "Stay", "Heel", "Go to Bob", "Pull the Hyperdrive Lever", "Grab the Rodian's Crotch"... That sort of thing. |

So far I've got:
Fetch
Sit
Stay
Maul
Heel (bite me on my heel is all I can get out of that command)
Oh and remember grenades look a lot like balls that you throw to animals for the purposes of the game fetch |

You know... Why re-invent the wheel. I'll just pull out my trusty "Monsters, Muties, & Misfits" book for Deadlands: Hell On Earth (From the Pinnacle Entertainment Group), which has "Stupid Pet Tricks" in it, and write out what is in there...
Come Here, Fetch, Get Down, Go Home, Go To Bob, Guard Them, Hide, Bite Them, Grab Them, Perform Trick (Dance, Shake a Paw, ect.), Round them up (Useful to hearding Bantha!), Scare Them (For loud critters), Seek, Shut Up, Sick Them, Speak, Stand Watch, Stay, Toss Them (For riding animals), and Track.
All pretty much self-explanitory... And I've used these ingame (Deadlands, that is), and they're darn useful!!!
Well... Except for the attack ones... But that was because it was a small dog that had a hard time ripping the head off of Zombies... |

Start training him on fetching pins from grenades. That'll be darn useful!!!
As long as you keep yours out of his reach, that is... |

I don't think there is a specific ability, but i would say to resist you'd have to roll "willpower." |

most animals have a skill listed call ornyerness or something like that.. and i've seen it as high as 4d so i was just curious how it works i know it has to do with how tame they are. _________________ Sabbac anyone? |

are you sure it's not just a "house skill?"
also it doesn't matter too much, I mean, how many animals/pets have their own character sheets or skill lists?
you could always just make something up, within reason. |

yeah its in the books um do you have the thrawn trilogy books im pretty sure they list animals in there and taun tauns have it as a skill they usually list it by the attributes so you might miss it. but its in that bold text ( i don't have any of my books with me or i'd give you a page number.) _________________ Sabbac anyone? |

Orneryness measures how ornery a creature is.
It is basically how wild or unresponsive it is.
so a creature with 1d in orneryness is fairly docile/tame and a creature with 7d in orneryness is a raging monster.
When riding a creature you roll vs a creatures orneryness so I figured the same thing applied when training it |

Don't be so sure. I know how it's pronounced but guessed at the spelling |

Dictionaries, wonderful things. Ornery; Of poor quality, coarse, unpleasent; Cantankerous. (Colloq.; ~iness)
I also looked up the various animals in my modest coolection (including Thrawn Trilogy) and none of the animals has Orneriness as a skill.
