...Perhaps even MORE than just a single adventure.

I've recently started a game where I'm running a bounty hunter. He's starting out with some okay armor, nothing real fancy. He's part of a team, so he's splitting bounty monies with the other members of the group. A large part of his incoming credits are going to go towards upgrading his armor and adding gadgets.

He's also going to be learning a LOT about Armor Repair, and perhaps even some Engineering as well...

Laughing

I'm not looking to add so much to his armor that it'll basically be like operating a Powersuit. I know it's cliche, but I really am looking to build him up to having armor like Boba or Jango Fett. Not necessarily Mandalorian, although that would be flippin' sweet; I just mean that I want it to provide the kind of protection his does, without incurring any DEX penalties, just like his. I also intend to add a lot of gadgetry to the helmet. Now fortunately my character's a slicer, so implementing a lot of the voice command codes I'd like to install won't be too much of a problem, and sometime down the line they might even save our bacon.

Well, Gundark's Fantastic Tech has a host of powersuits/armors that could potentially be starting points for your Bounty Hunter.

As far as removing the DEX penalty, here's my take. Treat it just like the other "upgrade" rules except in this case you are attempting to "downgrade" the DEX penalty. So, use the Armor Repair skill and you can remove up to 1D+2 of the DEX penalty. Use the costs/skill rolls as listed under "Improving Items." As a GM, I would probably also rule that you cannot improve the armor if you have removed the DEX penalty and vice versa.

Mind you, the armor is now "custom-fit" to your character only, so if anyone else attempts to put on the armor they will incur an additional DEX penalty equal to how much was removed for you!

That's why any mods I do to my armor are most likely going to be cheaper versions of what I'd like to end up with... What I'll probably end up doing is adding to the capabilities without taking off the DEX penalties. That way, I can go to an armorer down the line and say, "Ok, I want to make a set of armor that does all this, but doesn't hamper my movement." He'll be able to scavenge anything he needs off my current armor while custom-fitting me for the new set. Then, of course, the armorer gets to keep all my old armor and any components that are left over.

Sure, it won't keep me from having to shell out big credits, but a good armorer might be willing to work with me on price, since I'll be bringing materials with me.

Basic Mandalorian Body Armor is +2D Vs. Physical attacks and +1D Vs. Energy attacks no Dex penalty. some one with armor repair could increase that to +3D+2 Vs. Physical attacks and +2D+2 Vs. Energy attacks no Dex penalty. thats one Pip short of Bobasin the Movie Guide and GG:10 and it requiers a Heroic Roll, then pile on the Weapons and Gadgets. You can come close but never match Old School Boba.

other Bace Suits to build off of would be Storm Commando or Sun Guard, but either will realy anoy the Imperials, so ask your self who do you want mad at you the Empire or Boba Fett?

Yeah, but with the Imp armors, all you have to do is make enough cosmetic changes to keep your armor from looking too much like theirs.

As for Boba Fett, it might be a small annoyance to him having someone else in Mandalorian armor running around, but as long as they're not copycatting him, or stepping in on his business, he'll usually tolerate it.

It wasn't until Jodo Kast started posing AS Boba Fett, taking credit for jobs Fett had done, that he tracked Kast down, killed him, and earned himself a set of spare armor... So again, just make sure your armor doesn't look too much like his, and for crying out loud, DON'T run around pretending to BE him!

But if you really want to...we'll sit back and watch the show. Maybe even earn a few credits by charging admission. The video distribution rights alone would be very lucrative. Very Happy

I've always used the Hull and Maneuverability improvement rules from Tramp Freighters for Dex penalties on improved armor. In short, if armor is upgraded with improved protection, it delivers a larger Dex penalty, unless time and credits are spent to negate that.

This has worked well since it allows a suit of armor to be a "work in progress", enabling characters to customize different aspects of their armor as time and credits allow.

I would love to see someone make cosmetic changes to stormcommando armor, or snow/sand trooper armors. Heck, the only real one i can see modding is the base suit, as some planets have armor looking like that anyway... though then you have to have proof you are from that planet's millita...

Here's a little customization I'm cooking up:

That's really sharp, Gry!

From there, if there's no further structural changes you want to make right to the armor itself, then it'd be a good idea to add color to the armor. Anything that changes it from standard Imperial white is a good thing, because it will usually require at least a second glance to peg it as Imperial in origins.

But you're all missing the fact that Fett's armor has no leg coverage. I'd rather take the Dex penalty.

Boba's doesn't (in some pics, anyway), but Jango's did, and I've seen other versions of Mandalorian armor that do, as well. If you want leg armor with a Mandalorian armor suit, there's no reason you can't have it.

That's right. Especially if you can get it custom-made; then you can get around the DEX penalties.

I was under the impression that all Mandalorian armour, while following a basic pattern was highly individual.
