Is it generally assumed that all species live about as long as human standard?
I know some species live for a long time (such as whatever species Yoda is) but if that is the case will it be mentioned in the species profile?
Oh and with the SW advanced medical technology what is the standard human lifespan? |

Depends on the era... Aliens in the Imperial Era had a shorter lifespan... What with the disappearances after being seen with Stormtroopers and all...

I'd say so, ya... Really should be in the profile. I know that Wookiees live a long, long time... Chewie is what... 500+ during the Original Trilogy?

From what I've read, 100 Years old is a good age in Star Wars... 160-200 being good and old. Now, that's lifespan. Fighterpilots "Age" just like they do in real life, losing their edge quickly. You're only able to take so many G's for so many years...
Now... That's age, folks. Honestly, how many characters live to a ripe old age??? |

I think Chewie is 200ish in the episodes 4->6
In one of the dark force rising books when Luke is pondering Yoda's species he notes that generally the smaller species live for a shorter time and it's the larger species (like wookies) that tend to have long lifespans.
Is this backed up anywhere? Do sustillians only live for 60 years or something.
I assume that if you'r character is fully cybered up (or a B'omarr monk or something like that) then you basically live until you're killed is that correct?
Oh and I know droids aren't technically a species but it there anything that actually says how old R2-D2 is?
It just seems he's almost as old as Marvin the paranoid android  |

Oh right, I'm thinking Wrroora and Rrarra, the Wookiee techs from Pink Squadron... They've retired and consider fighting in the Rebellion a hobby (Hey, they lived through the CLONE WARS!!!).
Never saw the lifespan of Sullistans... Although Ackbar is getting up there in the novels, but it was stated that "He wasn't young when he started with the Rebellion", no definite age is given for him.
A Fully Cybered character would die until braindeath, which can still happen even if bottled... But takes much, much longer. Braincells still do die off... But, with less "additives" to be introduced into the mix...
As for R2-D2's age... It depends... Did the Naboo Government get him new, or used? The world may never know. |

And I supose if you download your personality into a machine you stop being a species and start being a droid which, if maintained can live forever it seems.
You do become vulnerable to memory wipes however... |

AH yes but some droids (Whistler for example) seem to have worked out how to back themselves up... To get extra lives if you will.
Of course a file in a computer is very dependant on others if it's body is destroyed I guess it just has to wait for it's friends to obtain a replacement so it can get downloaded into it |

Whistler is specially built for that sort of thing. And droids can back themselves up on a big arse harddrive... We do it all the time for the droids we love, care about, and spent lots and lots of credits on one-shot programming for (See Droids Sourcebook).
Most of the Freighters we have are specially modified with larger than average computer storage capacity... For sensor scans, information theft, droid back-ups and Hutt Porn.
Ummm... Forget I said that last one... |

Does it tell you how to upgrade existing droids and how much it costs as that's exactly what i'm trying to do. |

It tells of many, many upgrades!!! Has many, many droids!!! And...
Does not include DLing a Biological Mind into a Droid, which is difficult, and not likely to bloody well happen.
Seeing the number of droids my group has a tendency to aquire, it was very much a "Must Buy" when it first came out... Even though my GM hates droids.

Cool. Now I just have to find a place down here that sells the book.
But getting back to the lifespans of living creatures does the force lengthen a species lifespan at all. It could be that Yoda was just very powerful with the force and not a long lived species at all |

As we don't know about Yoda's Species, we don't know if he lived to a ripe old age, or died young.
Yes, smaller cretures tend to live shorter lives (Look at dogs and cats, compared to humans or horses), but that is not always the case.
In my mind (For what it's worth), the Light Side of the Force can, indeed increase the lifespan of a being... But remember that it's the "Living Force", and part of life is death. It's the Circle of Life deal... Through death is life, and through life is death.
The Dark Side will also elongate a lifespan... But it also consumes from within... Eating away at the user like a Cancer or Parasite... What it gives, it takes away... Don't forget that the Dark Side is, indeed, quicker... Both in the Positive and Negative.
"The Door Swings Both Ways", is a term I use often. It's an equality thing. Action, reaction.
And I'm getting to the point where my logic is confusing me... An oft found position, so I'll shut up now. |

Crell... Speaking from experience... When you don't live in the USA, ordering something over the 'Net is neigh on impossible in terms of problems and cost.
It can, and does, literally take MONTHS for a Money Order to cash if it's not from the US, and you can forget a personal cheque!
You got International Rate Fees, International Border Fees, Country Fees on BOTH sides... Taxes, Terifs... And then you have Customs checking the contents, possibly ruining the items with no hope of recompenpense.
AND I LIVE IN CANADA!!! Try that over an Ocean like Es would have to... OI!!! |
