Solar flares are one thing, but space is not replete with electromagnetic pulses on the same order of destructive power as an EMP weapon.
As for the EMP as a secondary effect of some explosions and other weapons, it also tends to be quite weak compared to the pulse of an EMP weapon.
According to Popular Mechanics, an EMP weapon creates a magnetic burst powerful enough to destroy circuitry. One in the middle of a city can black out the entire city by ruining the power lines within a one block range and possibly sending a power surge to destroy beyond it's range.
A natural or secondary EMP effect tends to be negligible, and usually the effect of the true phenomona or weapon will destroy before the EMP is noticeable. In the case of a Solar Flare, you are likely to be fried before anything. In the case of a reactor explosion, shrapnel and fire will kill you first, and in the case of a nuclear weapons people will die from the explosion if they are within range of the EMP effect. _________________ My backpack has jets!

Hey, Phalanks, we're cool! No hurt feelings here! I just like to toss in some random humor in my posts. I came up with that disclaimer a while back and it kind of stuck with me. I mean, no one actually is playing with nukes while reading my posts are they? If you are, then please stop hording them. I want one too!
Boomer I completely understand what you're staying and I agree with your findings. Your arguments are thoughtful and make perfect sense. However, I still believe my interpretation better suits my game. Let's call it a House Rule. Kudos for great debate *tips helmet*. _________________ Aha! |

People claiming to be scientists say I am vague, and demand I provide web links to back up everything I say... _________________ My backpack has jets!

Well, if they're scientists, they should either know the answer or devise a series of experiments to find it!
I'm suddenly reminded of Dr. Peter Venkman:
"Back off, man! I'm a scientist!" hehe _________________ Aha! |
