Hi guys

I remember that the old DOS games X-WING and TIE FIGHTER (Not xwing vs tie fighter), used to have some really cool soundtracks. Anyone have any idea if they are accessible and if yes, how? Thanks!

Wow. That is a bit of an old game. Though didn't they just have essentially a midi equivalant of the movie soundtrack?

As far as I remember, yes, it was nothing original.

If you can find it, the CD-Edition of X-Wing has the Star Wars Soundtrack included on it. Mainly because that was a 6-7 Floppy Disk game. On a CD.

We played my version of that for our Star Wars games. "Oh God, Ray, it'll play that MIDI stuff, won't it?" "Trust me."

He learned that, yes, sometimes, I'm not joking. It's very rare, but it does happen.

I have both games in CD edition (Lucasarts collectors edition) and I distinctively remember tracks that were unique. The tracks while you were being briefed on the missions as well as the track when the secret emissary of the Emperor briefed you on the secret missions were very cool... Too bad they can't be used...

Can anyone suggest any cool SW games that are kinda new? like KOTOR and SW Galaxies?

You can download the music from Republic Commando. As the game itself is a fps, the soundtrack is quite aggressive and could be used for combat sessions.

I donīt know how the files form X-Wing and TIE Fighter could be acessed. I think they are stored in a *.lfd format, but this is telling me nothing.

You are absolutely right. The score of TIE-fighter was based on the feel of that of the movies, but was different.
If Lucasarts made a new game similar to the original TIE Fighter I would buy it without hesitation. It was my fav game for a long time, far better than shooters and the like. Some people say it was complicated to use, but truth is that with some practice it becomes quite easy.

BTW, does anybody know if there's a fix to allow to play the CD ROM TIE Fighter collector's edition without using a joystick? This nuisance prevents me from using it on my PC now Crying or Very sad

On the matter of music, there are parts of the score of KOTOR which I liked very much. After 20 hours it becomes a bit repetitive, but it's good.

The music for TIE Fighter in particular was actually very distinctive. MIDI, yes, but haughty and Imperial in a wonderful way. It made you proud to be one of the Emperor's finest. Crying or Very sad

The best part was the opening crawl. You get the familiar blazing SW opening, but instead of the "Da da da daaaaaa DAAAAA" you get a bold, brassy version of the Imperial March. I almost wet myself the first time I heard it. Lucas should've done it the same way for ROTS.

I have all the music from that game in MIDI format (somewhere), if anyone's interested.

Oh, you mean megaupload.com -- singular! megauploads.com is something entirely different (and very confusing).

I guess this is it then:
