I'm working on creating a custom chat room to use for roleplaying sessions. It uses an integrated dice roller, so everyone can see what you rolled automatically (also prevents dishonesty ). It also supports some admin functionality, giving the gamemaster shortcuts to common tasks (telling the players to roll for initiative, roll their skill check, roll for damage, etc). _________________ "Mind what you have learned. That would be really cool. This would allow us to play with people who can't get together due to distance to play together again. Are you going to have an adventure area with some adventures in it so the Game Master cancopy and paste in certain parts of the mission (i.e. background info, opening info, descriptions of places, NPC descriptions, etc) so they don't have to type it all in and save time? Maybe create files you can send players that they can read over so you don't have to type so much? Are you also going to be able to save the adventure with all of the posts for future use of for archives? That would be cool so you can pick up an adventure where you left off or just to create an archive file to view later. Maybe let Game Masters set up their own archive files so they can be the only ones with access to them or password protect them? _________________ If you run .... you will only die tired! |

I was planning to have a section where GMs could post files, pictures, maps, text files, etc for players to view. They could post the character sheets for all of the players, too. It does support archiving the adventure, so you can go back and view it later. I'm not sure how well it would work password protecting the archive files, just because the webserver would need to have write access to the directory to create the files. Anyone could copy the contents of the chat room and save it to a file of their own, then put that file in a password protected area on the webserver.
Another issue that I was thinking about with the chat room was having multiple rooms for different people to use. I could probably just create another instance of the chat room and put it in a password protected directory. Then just send the password to the GM who is going to run the game. That way, multiple gaming groups could use the chat rooms at the same time. _________________ "Mind what you have learned. Save you it can." --Yoda

having multiple chat rooms is cool. You might want to categorize the games as either private or public. In a public one anyone could join. In a private one it would be password protected and you would have to contact the Game Master for the password. That way the game master could control who plays or not. _________________ If you run .... you will only die tired! |

ok, my brother used a program called MegaMek and it can be found at
http://www.megamek.com/news.php
the program only supports D6 usage, which isn't a problem for starwars, but i'm not sure how many D6 you can roll overall... so, check it out and see |

That looks cool, but it's a client application that you run on your machine. I'd like to keep this a web-based application. Thanks for the info, though! _________________ "Mind what you have learned. Save you it can." --Yoda
