Hi, some clarifications are needed
a) Can a character spend a some (4) of the starting 7D to increase Control and Sense to 3D each?
If the answer is yes, then assuming he has a skill in Lightsaber of 4D+2:
b) Since he has 1 DSP to begin with, let's say he enters combat and uses Lightsaber Combat. It works better when he's afraid and does not let his fear go. He therefore goes the easy way, using the Dark Side, and his difficulties remain the same. Three shots are aimed at him. He rolls for his Control first, using 3D(Control) -2D(MAP) +1D(DSP) = 2D. He gets lucky and makes the moderate. Then he rolls Sense, Using 3D -2D +1D = 2D and makes it easily. He has declared lightsaber parry. He parries at 4D+2 + 3D -2D = 5D+2. He rolls an 18.
Are the above correct?
If yes, then does the GM add 18 to the difficulties to hit, or do all to hit rolls over 18 hit?
Next round, he lightsaber parries and attacks. He keeps the LS combat "up". He rolls for the defensive action using 4D+2 -3(MAP) +3(Sense) =4D+2.
He rolls for the attack using 4D+2 -3(MAP) +3(Sense) = 4D+2. If he succeeds, he rolls for 5D+3D =8D Damage.
Let's say he succeeds. He gets a 34 for damage. The defender rolls 14 for strength. He is killed outright.
Under what circumstanses would I smell a DS point for using the Dark Side? _________________ Did you know I scored a hit on Red 5 at the battle of Yavin?? |

A person does not use DSPs as extra dice under any circumstance. Your DSPs are the difficulty number you have to beat on a D6 in order to avoid falling to the Dark Side. _________________ My backpack has jets!

Page 141 of the 2nd ed R&E book. "Lure of the Darkside. When a character with Dark Side Points uses a Force skill, her skill roll gets a bonus of 1D per Dark Side Point. Character who accept this bonus are particularly susceptible to it's temptations and must be sure to act with the purest intent or they will receive more Dark Side Points and risk going over to the dark side.
A Jedi may refuse this bonus, but the difficulties of all Force powers should be increased by at least one difficulty level to reflect the intense concentration the Jedi must have to avoid the dark side's temptations. A character who has gone over to the dark side (as described in chapter 4, "The Rules") no longer receives this bonus."
So Yes your jedi CAN get a bonus to his force skills, but he can opt not to have the bonus. _________________ "I take orders from just one person: Me!"

Since the first part was answered, let me answer the second...
BTB there is no clear answer to it, but the part of the rule quoted below, about jedi accepting this bonus are at higher risk to me would indicate any killing would warrent an imediate warning then a DSP for the second one. Also, since you said he is letting his 'afraid' how can he NOT let his fear go, and as we know, fear is a path to the darside, so imo causing any deaths while being like that would warrent a dsp...especially since he is not acting in the purest of intentions/heart... _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

I'd say unless the situation is heroic enough in which the character would gain a Force Point, that character gains a darkside point |

No problems Boomer. Everyone makes mistakes. BTW did you know that Boomer is an old Aussie slang word for Kangaroo? _________________ "I take orders from just one person: Me!"

Really, cool? Of all the cool things I keep finding out Boomer is, that is a really good one.
My mom started calling me that when I kicked a lot inside the womb. Now it has more to do with explosives and my wild attitude.
Anyway, back on the subject. He has to have the purest of intentions to accept that bonus without gaining a DSP. Without accepting that bonus, he also has a higher difficulty using the force as the Dark Side is clouding his mind.
Seems to about do it. _________________ My backpack has jets!

I think that's an interesting trade off. Well worth the benefit. _________________ "I take orders from just one person: Me!"

And it keeps 'em honest. Either be real careful, or trade in your green saber for a red one... |

"Uh oh, biiig Boomer!"
If it was ever cool, it's been utterly tainted by association. _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them."
