Close fights where they would burn themselves too or maze-like ruins where the flamer could be used without being spotted might prevent that. |
Well, unless i have the baddies using them, just stand there, they will be dodging, and if a pc attempts to shoot the back pack, they also have that called shot penalty.... _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Brings a whole new meaning to the phrase
"Here come those flamin' Stormtroopers again!"

Well, those using these, would not be imperials. More likely to be native mercs, working for an imp.. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Someone who's really fanatic about using a backpack flame thrower, like a bounty hunter, may invest a considerable amount of money in hardening and armoring the backpack. |

That's possible, but anyone who has ever had to hike(hump) a rucksack filled with batteries, ammo, radios, change of clothes, cold weather snivel gear, water, food, etc... You don't walk very fast. And you aren't going to be walking very long in between breaks either. Armoring an already heavy backpack will just make it that much harder to carry and move around in. Definite minuses to dodge and running abilities is a must.

I could see someone making it part of a Power suit, so they don't have to worry about the weight....
Hm. That gives me an idea _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Yeah, you could definitely make it part of a power suit like StarCraft, but watch out if that suit gets ruptured!

Watch out if the suit gets ruptured anyhow.
It's Power Armour, so that means it has a power source. What is that power source?
Battery? No problem, but don't expect to more for more than a few hours at most.
Fission? What are you, Old Skool?
Fusion? This is more like it, but that Hydrogen Bunker will make a nice, big boom!
Anti-Matter? Expensive, experimental, but gives you all the power you'll need. *AND* you have a bigger "Thermal Detonator" than anyone else on the block when it comes time to ask for a higher price. |

Uhm. The same powersource that Juggernaut, Spacetrooper and other sophisticated powersuits use to allow them to fire blaster cannons and miniature proton torpedo launchers. I don't think it's a real issue. |

Exactly. I'm willing to bet that they are either battery powered, or fusion powered for those suits, as they're mass produced (Somewhat). |
