A force wedgie usually does no damage, but adds a -1d penalty to dex for the duration and one round afterwards.
Depending upon the situation, it may or may not grant a DSP.

If you leave the victim suspended from a hook for several rounds, it is a DSP. Wink

But if it's just a simple yank-n-run, no DSP.

Should there not be certain skills, that require even a modicum of training to use?

Is it just me, or isnt this what Advanced Skills are for? I mean with the repair example, I may not have enough knowledge of cars to warrant a full die, but I know a thing or two, enough to BS for a couple things, I'm just more likely to botch it and completely mess it up.

Now I could see putting a limit on how high of a difficulty you can attempt, that doesnt seem too unreasonable.

Without going through all the replies, especially as there seem to be some OT ones:

It was said that if you don't have the skill, you can't try. That is bullshilt. I had never worked on computers in the repair sense really (PIC card installation was the msot I hav edone) but I was able to convert a Linux to a Windows platform, never having done anything like it before. Sure, I know how to use computers, but had never done anything like it and never used Linux. How did I do it? I am an engineering, and thus Technical focused, and took my time and did some research.

Another example. "I want to shoot the gun!" "You can't! You don't know how!" So lack of experience means you don't know how to pull a trigger? I know that almost anyone who hasn't fired a gun knows how to kill someone with one. Sure, hittitng may be harder.... but I am a good shooter with little experience, because I am very coordinated (SW equiv to Dex).

I like the idea of a standard +5 difficulty to not having the skill. That helps with the "But I have done this before ton of times" agruement I come across. Sure, thier Tech is 3d, and they have made some security rolls before, but if they don't have the skill, then is a real-world sense it shows they haven't actually learned anything from it.

We had the issue of using just attribute with the use of huge races that were one par in beginning to some of the older characters. Add the "boost attribute" power, and my sniper I have been playing for three years or so is outshot, and in game I had a character of mine sit back because she was the only pilot there (huge @$$ tech and mech, robot engineer) but the high power boosted attribute just took the job.

Saying "you can't do that" makes the game less fun and very limiting. Give them a chance to try, but just make it a little more difficult.

I agree. They should ALWAYS have the chance to try.

Other characters might caution very strongly against the Trandoshan attempting to disassemble that thermal detonator to boost its output, but if that Trandoshan is determined to try it, he's gonna try it, by golly!

But, especially with those big honking claws they have, it's gonna be WAY more difficult for them, especially if they don't have prior knowledge, let alone specialized tools to counter their low Dexterity.

The other characters, however, might be wise to emphasize their point by following the ages-old advice of Arthur, King of the Britons:

"Run away! Run away!"

I completely agree. There is always a chance of success. Theoretically a blaster could, with massive intervention by the Wild Die gods, inflict Death Star-esque damage. Of course if you're that good with the dice, stop roleplaying for a night and spend it at the local casino.

Aye. To re-iterate, the difficulty increase/decrease tables are there for a reason. You can always try, but it's just more difficult under certain circumstances. Not knowing how is one of those circumstances. Smile
