Got this from over on the Holonet. Guy was on about a problem power gamer, who cares not for other people, including the other PCs, just as long as he makes money.... Apparently, one mission had them going after the maker of a killer virus that whipped out a town. When they took the maker out, this guy kept the virus's make up, on a data pad, and has been selling the virus to whom ever will pay...
Would you assign him any DSPs for knowingly selling a killer virus? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Oh, most definetly! His actions are that of a true villain. If he's Force Sensitive, then a DSP every time he sells it. If he's not FS, then just 1 DSP for the whole scheme. _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

I think I would award a DSP each time the virius is used, along with a force vision to the nearest Jedi (hopefully a PC) who might not understand why he's getting these repeated visions. Only when the two talk would this new mission (end the virius production & use) become understood. Until then, this evil PC would keep getting DSPs until he corrects his character's evil act or it becomes an NPC working against the group. Mass murder is a crime against the force. Repeated unrepentant mass murder is something that should drop a PC to continuing villian status. _________________ Know Jesus, Know Peace.

Isnt a virius a living thing and thin a part of the living force?
So, if the pc is just doing it for profit and not for the purpose of killing millions of life forms, shouldn't the force see it as trading life for life
I don't know I'm just tryin to start somthing |

There's debate wheither viruses are truly living things.
Technicaly they aren't, but it's a big debate in the realm of biology.
Viruses are smaller thn cells, and are only composed of RNA in a shell. They invade other cells, and get them to prodice more viruses. So they are "living" parasites, but not true life as far as we're concerned. |

Just to pose the same question under a different light:
Suppose a character, after invading the "bad guy's" fortess, ends up with a crate of blaster rifles. Life goes on and the group is short on credits to fund their adventures, so the character decides to sell the surplus rifles on the black market. How would you handle DSP then?
You see it's basically the same situation, only replacing viruses by blaster bolts. But all of a sudden it doesn't look so dark. Would you give the character a DSP for every person who dies under the fire of one of the rifles he sold? Ok, it'll be another person actually pulling the trigger and doing the killing, but then again, on the virus situation, it would be another person releasing the virus.
This is why I would only give a DSP for the evil act of selling a killing device. Nothing further. _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

The only real purpose of an artificial virus is to kill other people, or to study it so other people won't get killed. (Or, to make it more deadly...)
So there aren't many reasons to sell a virus on the black market. Guns on the lack market, however, have a little bit of justification. Buyers might use the weapon for self defence, thry might be rebels in need of weapons, etc.
But I think the PC should get a DSP every time he sells the virus. |

The blasters and the virus are different. A gun can be used for defense or for murder / killing. The blasters can be sold to planetary militia, rebels, ect without fear of "abuse". But the same is true of individuals, some might buy the guns for protection, others as nothing more than a weapon. The virus can only be useful and used by two people - researchers looking for a cure and people wishing to release the virus as a weapon.
Second, when attacked with a blaster you have warning and defense. You can either see the attacker, hear the blaster discharge, dodge, ect. Second - you only take damage from each shot. With the virus, there is less, typically no warning to your infection. Also, a virus is a continuously damaging the person and usually being transferable (contageous). A virus is by far a different thing from a blaster. _________________ Luke, I am your father.
That's impossible!
And Leia is your sister!
That's improbable?
And the Empire will be destroyed by..EWOKS!
That's...highly unlikely.
The Force? Bacteria called midichlorians.
If you don’t take this seriously I'm out. |

A virus kills indiscriminately. Unlike a gun, there is no skill, no safety switch. It multiplies and kills and goes on killing. It is NOTHING like a gun. That comparison falls apart right there simply because there is no comparison.
Now, as for what to do about the DSPs. If he were to sell them to researchers, than he would be working against the virus and certianly not have to worry about it.'
As for selling the virus to people who would do nothing but kill with it, well for crying out loud he knows what the weapon does. Definitely a DSP. _________________ My backpack has jets!

Alright, alright, I take back my rifle comparison.
Let's try this another way:
You see, what I really meant is that selling that virus is very much like selling Ice Cream in a local fair.... _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

Yes, cold head-aches are just as indiscriminate as the death of millions of untargeted random innocent people.

What, bad example?
Ok, you see, actually selling that virus should have the same moral consequences as booking an on-line plane ticket one year in advance for a trip to Costa Rica during off-season. _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |
