A couple of Stamina checks, then a Explosive Decompression of 20D Death Star Scale. |

Getting spaced, after one round the internal pressure of your own liquids and gasses destroys you. End of story. _________________ My backpack has jets!

What was the player thinking when he shooted himself?
I got some stupid deaths too
A player jumped of a bike at 140 kilometers per hour trying to loose a tail.
"Magic is for weaks, if you're strong enough as you say fight me" - Player "asking" the Death Goddess a favor while he was at her domain.
"I grab it" - A very wise decision of a player when a grenade was thrown on the party _________________ There's no such a thing as the Force's own will. You are it's will. Use it, to impose your will upon reality. Master it, and you shall master the universe. May the Force serve you well. |

Damage of this sort is Hand In Your Character scale.
As for the fellow who shot himself in the head, I would have liked to know what he was thinking too...but all he told me was "Because I can."
On a more recent note, I may be force to kill a player with a seemingly meaningless death in the near future. I do not want too, but my players have been focusing so much on combat skills and force skill, and ignoring almost all else (lifting, climbing, jumping, medicine, demolitions, security). I am going to be forced to have bad things happen when they can't perform tasks, such as cross a tight rope over a gorge, or disarm a bomb, etc... I hate having a player die simply because he failed a roll, but I feel it is their own fault at this point. I have had them fall, break bones, burn countless CP on moderate tasks, and yet they don't increase these skills... _________________ "There's a set way to gain new Force Points and it represents a very nice system, where you're rewarded for heroism, not for being a poor conductor to electricity." ~Jachra |

Maybe they just need a hand, or lose one. _________________ There's no such a thing as the Force's own will. You are it's will. Use it, to impose your will upon reality. Master it, and you shall master the universe. May the Force serve you well. |

As it is they are becoming too reliant on NPCs and droids, and the NPCs and droids don't always help, as it doesn't always fit their motives or programming. _________________ "There's a set way to gain new Force Points and it represents a very nice system, where you're rewarded for heroism, not for being a poor conductor to electricity." ~Jachra |

Give them some reasons to stop relying in droids like programming limitantions, malfunction, etc. Make them believe they can only survive by themselves. _________________ There's no such a thing as the Force's own will. I've already had droids malfunction, had them unable to perofrm the required task, not programmed for requested services. I've had NPC outright refuse, demand payment, or simply botch it so bad they made things worse. The players just aren't getting it. I already have things planned rquiring certain skills, skills I have been asking for rolls on since adventure 1, but no one has increased them...so, it will lead to a grizzly death that is unsatisfying...

When i had a group like this, i simply had the enemy use this against them. he waited until they pulled all their droids into the area, then set off a wide area EMP bomb... Once they were all shut down, the pcs were toast... _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

I try never to use a roll-or-die situation. However, roll 5 times-or-die is a bit better. I try to leave a role-playing or non-combat escape. Maybe not a solution, but at least an escape. |

I've done this Revan. Put them on a world with little or primitve tech, no way to get off of it, & imperials following. Make them keep track of ammo (a CP award if they do). Having to hunt, make traps, repair equipment, and such should make them understand that they need the "just shoot them"skills less than other skills.
Personnally, my PCs may not have high levels in skills, just a lot of them. Usually around 4D. It has saved several of my PCs. |

I like that way of playing. I usually play with social and mental PCs.

It might also be that the characters are still finding ways of getting what they want without the skills. You might possibly be encouraging them without meaning to. The challenge of overcoming character limitations is sometimes part of the fun.
Perhaps giving some incentives for having the other skills rather than trying to punish not having them may work better. A good climber discovers a mysterious glowing vial of fluid. Someone repairs a droid to make him a hero to a certain people who will now do all his bidding while he is on the planet. Things that your other powergamed characters would envy.

Or you could just sit down with the PCs and have a friendly conversation with them where you could explain to them what do you think about their way of play and hear what they have to say. All the group including you could develop and improve a lot your interpretations _________________ There's no such a thing as the Force's own will. You are it's will.
